Get a dictionary where there is a pronunciation guide which gives the pronunciation in British English. Watch british movies and imitate what you can. Then just practice, practice practice. But before you go about learning accents, slangs or dialects, make sure you brush up on your basic grammar. You should master your English well enough to avoid mistakes such as 'an Chinese' (no offence) before you try speaking with any accent, if not you'll end up sounding so silly.

By the `British` accent, I assume you mean what used to be known as `The Queens` English.` Actually there are not that many Brits who speak `terribly frightfully plum in mouth darling`! That is with the exception of those that appear in American films. I think that it is very sad that you want to lose your homeland accent; there is nothing wrong with having that. If you really do want to `round off the edges and soften the vowels` a little then I suggest that you watch movies ot TV shows, or better still come to live in Britain. Please don`t make the mistake of mixing the accents( i.e. using a bit of cockney a bit of Geordie a bit of Devonian, Lancashire,Yorkshire,Scottish, Welsh,Irish etc.) That will sound just phony. Concentrate on one accent only, watch the same regional TV show all the time. Don`t confuse them.

There are some audios that teach you a British accent. You can go to a bookshop, I guess, for more information on the name of the CDs/ tapes, ..... I'm positive you'll find something.
To learn a british accent just do what i did, watch BBC america alot or if you dont get that channel (i get it on Direct TV) watch monty python movies/ flying circus or any show that was produced by the bbc!

If you have the time for it, spend three months in England and it will stick to you without too much effort. I believe there are langauge programs of several months. while you are there learning the language you get a temporary job and they make sure there's enough interaction with native speakers. This is the best solution if you want a genuine English accent... You might want to contact the British embassy on this.

Audio is the only way. Either listen to British radio or TV, then repeat after them, on and on and on and on. If U have the chance to go there, will be a great help. I love this accent myself, I never tire of watching BBC world channel. U can have a dose of the BBC news, once a day at least.

Well, Jarod, good to hear you think the English accent is a good one, lad.
May I suggest that you watch the BBC and start speaking like the Newscasters?
Be the easiest way to pick up a cultured Accent, I should think.
Cheers.
