Hi there...the power of bonding with a cat is amazing as well as spiritual. To encourage this growth continue to lavish your new kitten with much attention and devotion, but always remember to not force yourself on her so she can feel the freedom of having the choice to be loved.
Cats are particularly loyal to those who feed them so she will always come to depend on you if you do this for her daily. Cats love being pampered with treats and toys. Consider purchasing some dried bonito fish flakes http://www.thecatconnection.com/page/TCC/PROD/TRT/KITTYKAVIAR_1oz&AFFIL=D1b9411a?gclid=CO7Qpqzup4gCFSJnYwod5Fnr7A as this not only is healthy cat food treat, but no cat can refuse this delectable treat and remember you have the key to her heart with these. Kittens love plenty of play time so interactive toys are the best to achieve this--something like a product called "Da-bird" http://www.thecatconnection.com/page/TCC/PROD/TYS-WAND/TYS-4990?gclid=COrTt-rtp4gCFQL7YgodkGWh7Q is a toy that most cats/kittens can't refuse. Additionally, good quality organic catnip is a must as this gives kitties sheer euphoria, however please keep in mind that many kittens may not take interest in this until they are over the age of 6 months.

Um, Cats come with their own personality, in tact.... However....
There is something in your favor... it seems SHE has chosen you... if you say she came out of no where...
That's what cats do... they choose their person(s). Now, the next thing to help keep things good between you and your cat....
PLAY! Socialize, pet.... and Play some more, especially if she is young.
Food is always good, and treats.... Cats love treats, you just have to find the kind(s) she likes.
I was adopted by a feral/rescue kitty and she wasn't really a lap cat, but she played with me and slept by my head a night some times... and PURRED... so I know she was happy.
I more thing I'd do, and more for her safety and your peace of mind, is to train her for a collar or harness asap! that way, if she gets loose, you have a way of identifying her with a collar and tag. If you start young, she won't know it's not typical for a cat to wear one.
Oh, yeah, Brush your kitty! Giving you more time to bond with your little one, and get some of her hair into the trash instead of on your sheets or carpet....
Good Luck! Kittiies Are So Much FUN!

You sure you weren't thinking of a dog? "The cat will consent to be your friend, if you are worthy, but never your slave". Like one person said cats come with a personality already installed and it usually comes with a big helping of independence. The worst thing you can do is force a cat to "cuddle" when it's not cuddle time according to the cat. Don't come off too needy. Cats hate that. Offer affection, brushing, treats, lap time, but if cat has important cat business to attend too, do not force her.
She will reward your respect.

I never liked cats much until my daughter left her then 3 yr old cat with us when she moved out of state. The cat had lived with her and her ex-boyfriend who wasn't very nice to her. She was very Leary of men. This cat captured my heart in no time..when my daughter moved away she picked up on my emotions and would crawl on my lap and when tears would roll down my face she would put her paw on the tear. I have never in my life seen such a sensitive animal. When either my husband or I am sick that is the person that she doesn't leave their side. I didn't bring her up, she wasn't treated nicely and yet she turned out to be so in tune to our feelings. The cutest is when I'm sleeping and she sneaks up on the bed and I wake and find her against me with her paw over my shoulder. I told my daughter she gave up an angel.

Tell you the truth, you can't force a cat to love you--she will choose to, on her own terms. That is part of a cat's charm, because her instinct doesn't force her to be loyal to you--she likes you for who you are.
It might sound like bribery, but a cat will love the person who feeds her, plays with her, and pays attention to her. Just like a human relationship, a human/cat relationship has to be nurtured.
Not all cats are "cuddly"--she may not be the "lap cat" type. But I've yet to meet a cat who doesn't like petting; I had one cat who sat next to me (refusing to sit on my lap), and leaned into me, purring his little heart out.
Just be a comfortable, predictable part of your cat's life; show your affection, and she will see that you like her and probably like you right back.
Your kitten is unique. Learn her special way of communication; learn the way she thinks and how she expresses her emotions. The better you know her, the more you can communicate right back to her.
Cats are not necessarily loyal in the way that dogs are; but if you mean "a cat that likes you", then that is quite easy to do--a cat will like you just for feeding her, giving her a place to live, and spending time with her. Intelligence is mostly inborn; but to maximize your cat's intelligence, provide her with plenty of interesting toys. You needn't spend a lot of money on them; paper bags, toilet paper rolls, paper wads, and ping-pong balls all make great cat toys at a low price. A lot of cats love to chase string, but that should be supervised--a cat that eats string can require surgery (ouch)!
A healthy cat is a happy cat. Feed high-quality food (no table scraps!), keep her litter box very clean, and groom her regularly if she's a long-haired cat. Make sure she's spayed (heats make female cats miserable!), and take her in for shots and check-ups from your vet.
I highly recommend that you keep your cat indoors. In our world, there are many dangers... cars, insecticide, dogs, coyotes... and you don't want your cat to face them. If played with and entertained, an indoor cat can be quite a happy little creature who doesn't mind not being out at all. On top of that, you would be the center of her world... an outdoor cat has a lot more things to pay attention to, and has to be tough to avoid danger.
Your cat will come with her own personality already installed; however, though you can't mold her personality, you can mold her relationship to you. If she's a quiet, shy little thing, then be a calm, reassuring owner. If she's an energetic bundle of excitement, be her play partner. If she loves to talk, talk back; if she likes to snuggle, then snuggle her. A great part of having a feline is that you begin to realize just how very unique your cat is, both from you and from other cats.
Good luck--pet your kitty for me!

However you treat your cat when they are a kitten will affect their adult personalities. If you constantly pick up your cat and pet her, give her treats, talk to her, love her, she will be like that with you forever. I did that with my kitten, everyone knows whose cat he is. he is sitting on my lap now.

Try to praise her with all your might, give her several pets, and try to please her. but if she does something bad, do not pet her, or she'll think its ok to do that, but do not hit her and stuff like that. just scold her. wave the naughty finger. she will know.
