This is because of their unique dome shape which draws the center of mass to its center axis and prevents it from breaking. Hence, a much larger force is required to break it then u expect. This dome shape is so powerful that if properly designed it can become unbreakable no matter how much load u put on them. This thing can see some old forts that have a dome on their ceiling which adds to their strength. Even now the modern structures which are being built today have dome shape as it provides strength to them and also contributes in prevention from earthquake.

The structure of the egg-shell is similar to 'inverted U' shaped door frames, commonly found in old-time houses, palaces and forts. The upper part of the door frame is made up of wedges arranged in such a way that more the weight of the structure falls on the frame, the more resistance it offers. At the same time, the lightest of force applied in the upward direction, standin in the archway, can bring down the frame easily. The same structural principle helps the chick break out of the seemingly strong shell.
