These two kids asked me if I can give them a quarter. So I gave them a dollar to which the older brother replied, " we won't have to sneak on the bus today". I asked them where they liveds and what are they doing on the beach. T which they replied that they come to fish so they can sell the fish and make some money. I offered to buy them corn dogs and I asked if they already have had their dinner to which they replied that they do not eat dinner. The younger kid started to cry and said that sometimes they give him lunch at school and sometimes the they tell him that all their tickets ran out so no lunch. I gave the younger kid all the cash that I had on me so he can eat for a few days. The older blond kid asked his brother to return the money. The younger kid asked me tell his brother that he has returned the money to which I lied. I found out that the father abondoned them and mother has altogether seven kids so she does not work. Why does the school not give the kid lunch.

I was thinking that if I see them again, I will call the younger kid's school. The older brother looked fine but the younger brother was very thin.

Since I am talkative and so was the younger brother so the information just slipped out.

At this point I only know the first name of one of the kids and the city they live in. The two brothers were very loving with each other, I would not want to break their family by calling on social service.

If you are seriously concerned for their safety and wellbeing...if you think that something is seriously wrong with the way they are being cared for...if you really think that they are being neglected then call DSS (Department of Social Services) so that they can investigate and intervene in help is truly needed.

I am not sure but what you are not doing more harm than good in not calling social services on these children. I too would not want them to be split up as a family, but I would feel even worse if I read in the next days paper about two young boys being found dead and sexually molested on the beach. What if it had been a Pedifile whom they had asked for a quarter? Do you think he would have given it to them and walked away?
Social services isn't always the bad guys. They might just go in and try and help them with the free lunches for the kids in school and perhaps an assistance check every month and food stamps.
At this point, these childrens lives are in your hands. What are you going to do about it???

You should ask the school board on what type of school not give a kid lunch. I don't know of any. Even if they did run out of tickets they would still give him lunch. They may be in a bad situation but they are survivors. Did they tell you all of this information about them or did you find out some other way?

the next time you see them, get their names & their school. check with the school & ask help from the school guidance counselor to check on the family. If they are as miserable as the 2 boys told you, I suggest you to ask the mother if its ok with her to ask assistance from the social security. Usually, they bring the children to foster houses for better food & shelter & education.
