Yes, people who are undergoing chemotherapy often get blood transfusions, as chemo can suppress the blood-forming functions of the body. If she's not telling you straight out, then honor her privacy and don't pry. Just be supportive.

This sounds like the answer is possibly yes. When people are getting chemo they take a medicine called Nuprogen to help build new blood cells. I think transfusions are also used when the patient can not make enough blood on their own.

Maybe. Doctors who treat cancer also treat hematologic problems. She may have a blood disorder that is not cancerous. Does she get any other treatment at the cancer center that you know of? If she does, then she is likely getting chemo and needs transfusions because the chemo is dropping her counts.

during chemo as previously answered the bodies blood is compromised , lower WBC, RBC, platelets etc. The term transfusion is a little misleading......they do not actually replace the blood .....Only administer units of blood......to help the body build the blood back up to normal levels . It is very common when taking chemo to have to receive units of blood.

you should express your concerns to your friend , maybe she is trying to tell you something and doesnt know how or she is scared . sometimes people on chemo have to have blood because their platelet counts gets to low , which can put them in danger of infection. ask her straight out , if she is really sick , shes gonna need all the support she can get. i do wish both of you well and god bless.........
