Black and grey are neutral colors so they are colored like that to fit in in any house paint.... And they don't disturb our viewing on TV since they are dark color unlike another neutral color which is white.....
Black and grey don't give emphasis on our eyesight while watching so our eyes focus on the TV..

You can fix the problem by simply making the T.V. disappear. Build yourself a box that's large enough to hold your T.V. at a height that is comfortable for viewing in bed. It have a door on one side.
Lets say this box is 5' high, so you can watch television from bed... Put 2 shelves on the inside. One for the television, and one beneath it for the DVD and/or VCR. The bottom can be used for movies, or whatever. Anyway, run the cords down the inside and connect them to an extension cord that leads outside the box. If you have cable, run that through the same holes you'll need to make for the electrical cords
Once you have the cabinet built, your television will disappear when you don't want to look at it, and you gain space on the top to merchandise your room with a plant or something. You can even trim this sort of cabinet out to look as fancy as you like...
Add casters to the bottom, just in case you want to move it.
The last time I built one of these for someone, it cost me about $25 for the plywood, 1X2s, and paint.

I think its just the disposable culture that we live in - grey and black is probably cheaper to produce than say Red and Orange.
I also suppose its because the colour is very neutral. Had they started out with Magnolia casing for TV's and Video's I'm sure it would be the most popular colour for them.

Why did the spray painting answer get a thumbs down? - it's the most sensible suggestion.

you can spend a couple of bucks on two cans of spray paint. One can of primer so the paint will stick on that plasic like it should. And the other can be the color of your choice. Heck, you could change it every week if you wanted to take the time. have fun

Save up and get one of those flat panel ones - around £200 for a small one, I think. You can mount it on the wall - dead smart.
