Paying implies that you kind of owed them the compliment.

I usually just give them.

But rarely. I don't see the point in constantly praising others.

It is usually a compliment given when you are in front of the person being complimented , as in job well done , great report in school, ect,ect, a compliment which is paid as in pay, is usually given in a letter, on phone in passing or to your boss, over seas person or as a thank you in a note. As explained to me by my elders..

I'll be the first to "pay" or "give" a compliment. Pay or give.......... who cares! Please, please, could you turn your avatar right-side up, it spins me out every time I come across it!
