Depends...if you're looking for a 1911...a decent one is gonna run four to five hundred. A cheap 1911 maybe around three.
A good 1911...six hundred to a couple of thousand.
High Standard makes a great little starter 1911 for around five hundred...so does springfield armory. Both would be great if you wanted to customize it and make it your own. Taurus makes a really nice 1911 too, about the same price range. I know someone is going to mention the Rock Island Armory or Armscor 1911's for the three hundred range, new, but I've had bad experiences with both companies, and I know others with the same issues.
Basically, if you are looking for a 1911, you can get a new one just about as easily as a old one. Now, just a .45acp...Ruger P90, around $280-$300, used...maybe a bit more...I don't like them, personally, and I haven't paid them much attention in several years.
Glock 21, four hundred, used...maybe four and a half.
Umpteen many more out there...prices from two hundred to two thousand...

Bound's hubby here:
A good used 1911 could start out as inexpensively as $350. This depends on the make, model, accessories/features, finish and condition. The more it has beyond an issue type pistol, the more it will cost. If you are looking for a no frills .45 ACP, I would suggest that you look at a new Springfield Armory GI or MIL-SPEC M1911A1 for $600-$700. Depending on what you plan on using it for cost cutting may not be a wise idea.
Good luck.

The price will depend ENTIRELY on 2 things...
Manufacturer and date of manufacture.
If it is a fairly new Glock, you'll pay plenty.
If it is an older Sig-Sauer or Taurus, you'll get a better price.
Just curious, why a 45 ACP over a .357 Magnum (My Favorite)?
I am sure that you already know this but...
If your planning to buy a used firearm, take it to a firing range and SHOOT THE THING! Preferably with the current owner.
And TRY TO MAKE IT JAM / malfunction / misfire!
If it fails, DON'T BUY IT!
Using a weapon that doesn't fire when you need / want it to is worse than having no weapon at all, in my opinion.
Also, is it accurate?
If it won't put the bullets where you tell them to go, then what's the good of having it?

You do not mention what manufacturer you want. It depends on make, model, condition and your location.
Expect to pay $200 to $1000 USD.
