There is a lump on my jaw, on the side, but sort of towards the front. It started out as just some soreness, but the lump has appeared throughout the day...it is soft, and is a little tender to the touch. It isn't in the right area to be lymphnodes...so what could it be??

TMJ...does it hurt to open your mouth or chew? Does your jaw make a clicking noise? If you answered yes to both of these, see a dentist who specializes in TMJ.

Abscesed tooth, or gum disease. Your Lymphnodes are on your neck and extend upwards to the lower part of your jaw. Generally when you get streo throat they tend to swell. But Gum disease may cause them to swell too. In this case you said it was a lump. And that sounds like an abseced tooth

It could be a muscle, did you chew anything chewy, tough, crunchy, or hard? There are alot of muscles in the face and jaw area, the masseter, mentalis, depressor anguli oris, etc.

there are also lymph nodes that do run along the jaw, you can see them on my site here: http://www.lymphland.com/legarmheadnodes.html so it could be some type of inflammation of a muscle or node.

try to lightly massage it and you can try moist heat or ice. I have irritated my jaw many times and I will use mineral ice on the muscles, just don't get it anywhere near your eyes.

You should go to the doctor because my daughter had this and within days she looked like she had the mumps. She had a severe allergy to cats. The swelling would not go down on its own due to blockage and she had to have an antibiotic. The pain will get worse and worse the bigger it gets.

It could be a lot of things (likely harmless dont worry or the drs would have given it more attention.) All the same go back and demand they find out what it is and remove it if that's what you want.

Sounds like an abscess! Best to see a dentist or doc soon!
