I would hit my brakes because if the person behind me hits me that means they were to close to me or they were not paying attention to react in enough time plus its just a reaction when something or someone runs into the road you automatically hit the brakes that's like saying if a person run out into the street they are fair game just like an animal and if i hit my brakes for a person i would do the same for an animal because they are both living things

dont drive too fast where animals are likely too be.like in the countryside. but if the animal just appears out of no-where then if its bigger than your car then slam on the person behind you will get the insurance bill as they where driving too close too you anyway. you should always stay far enough away from the car in front of you so if theres an emergency the one in front can slam on and not to run into them.

I had this with an advanced examiner once. He said unless it was a child you should not change speed or direction in order to not off balance the car and maybe cause an accident. At the time I missed the fluffy little squirrel but for safety he said "forget the animal"
Personally tho I treat it as tho its an emergency situation - IT IS! Try and avoid hitting it by breaking/turning whatever but not to the extent that you lose control of the car. Treat it as practise.
You should, incedentally, always drive as if something is about to potentially go wrong. Preparedness!
And of the guy behind you hits you its his/her fault for driving too close!

Try as much as possible to avoid running the animal over,,if you have to put on the brakes then so be it,,coz if the car behind you did crash into you,,it's coz he was to close to you in the first place, I personally always try to miss the little creatures that step out into the roads at night,,that's when I work in an 18 wheeler semi truck,,sometimes I get one and you can feel the little bump,,as my trailer wheels crush it,,knowing you have squashed him all over the road,,blood, guts, brains and twisted mangled bones with clumps of fur and blood spattered tyres that you will have to wash down later,, then I feel very upset for the sad loss of this poor little thing,,imagine all the baby little thingswaiting for it's mother to return, weeping, whining and whimpering.
,,oh god I'm crying now
Maybe next time when your out for a drive just sing the song "Bright Eyes"
And don't drive too fast,,if I can avoid most little creatures in my truck,,then surely you can miss one in your car.
Or the vegetarians will be looking for you

I'd do whatever I could to not hit it. In fact, I had to stop for a cat in the road last night, and there are always deer that jump out in front of me when I'm coming up my street. And if I DO have to slam on the brakes, then, whatever, because when someone hits you from behind, it's legally their fault.

I'd like to apologize ahead of time to all the little creatures that might cross my path someday in this situation...because I would run over the animal! Call it selfish, but I'm not about to risk losing my life!!
It's not a nice feeling though, I ran over a kitten one time that flew in front of my car in a busy California Freeway. I didn't have time to think about what to do, I just heard a thump and saw the poor thing fly back. I tried to go back and find it (maybe take it to the vet) but it was hard because all the cars were going 100 MPH (or it seemed that way).

Slow down and try to avoid both, never slam on brakes when there is a car behind you.

I would do the same as if it were a child, slam on my brakes. If I got hit from behind, then the car behind shouldn't have been so close.

Hi RM, I could never run over any animal. I would drive my car in a ditch so i wouldn't kill the animal, or get hit from behind.

This is not an opinion question but a driving law. You must not endanger others by braking for a small animal,or you will be found at fault.
