I was doing random room inspections, and I caught my Lieutenant, with a girl in his room overnight, which he knew is against the rules. Unfortunately, there have been field grade article15s for soldiers caught doing the same, but that type of punishment is not open to officers without getting GOs invoved. I want to teach him a lesson without ruining his career. Does anyone have an recommendations on courses of action I could take to be harsh but not career-ending? He needs some mentoring.

I believe you have the option of unofficial reprimand.
Advise him of the totally unprofessional nature of his action and that he seriously needs to decide if he wants this as a career. Officers are expected to conduct themselves by a higher standard. Challenge him by asking him if he thinks he can come up to standard.
Let him know that this will be a warning and that the next offense will result in formal action

I was caught with a girl in my room by my sergeant. We were still sleeping at the time and when he came in I covered her with the blanket and then leaned against her as if I was alone. It was obvious she was there and I'm sure he knew, especially since her red high heeled shoes were right there on the floor in front of him. He didn't do or say anything about it, but that was probably because almost everyone was doing this! So much so, a general assembly was called for by the Commander.

Perhaps the best thing you can do is give him a stern warning and the promise that the next time it happens, you will not cover his a**. In this way, he gets an "official" reprimand (without the documentation) and a single chance to redress himself. Then, if it happens again, do what you got to do.

I agree with the guy above me. I have seen to many times where Sgts and officers have no problem coming down on the lower troops no matter if it will effect there career or not with the excuse of "we dont need people like him in the military" but then you come on and say you dont not want to discipline him because he is an officer and you dont want to ruin his carrer. I say go through the appropriate channels and he should recieve what is knew could happen. We dont need people, especially officers, in the military that can not follow simple rules.

I know you want to do the right thing here, but it just gets to me that officers are held to lower standards than enlisted. Shouldn't it be the other way around? i was caught drinking during AIT and busted from E-4 to E-2, plus 30 days extra duty. They still let me take honor graduate, though.........

Sorry, I know it's not the advice you're looking for, but I just wanted to state that I believe we cannot expect those below us to honor the rules when our superiors just get a slap on the wrist.

Damn you. Double standard. You ruin soldiers careers with article 15's and you want to save a 2nd Lts career?

As a former airborne sgt with the 82nd stationed at Ft Bragg, and a Drill instructor with the 104th Regiment I find your doulbe standards disgusting.

I assume you're his CO. If that is the case, you could utilize the wisdom and experience of your Sergeants to mentor this Lieutenant. I am a retired Navy CPO and mentored many a young officer during my career.

Article 15 for possible fornication.

He is a commissioned officer NOT enlisted.

Unfortunately too many officer like you give the appearance of ONLY punishing enlisted personnel only.
