I am a female boss of about 40 juniors. I think the word "impress" might be wrong, as that means, to me, that you're just trying to get on the good side while not actually doing anything of value. If you mean that we respect someone or can admire that they did something right; that leads to your answer right there: DO SOMETHING.

Volunteer the problem and the solution and think up the great way it can to carry out your solution and we'd be soooo thrilled.

We (male or female, but an Exec/VP/Senior) actually have more on our plates than checking to see who got here on time and coordinating vacation schedules. :) Most of the higher-ups are thinking in the realm of, "What's the next big thing we can invent/tackle/out-do our competitors with?" Everyone has a job. It's doing your part that takes the day-to-day load off of the executive above you so they can put their creative genius to work; hopefully bringing in more customers and money and thus paying everyone beneath them well above their expectation. At our company each person BELOW me makes a killing and I work at it so that that happens. I probably have the best-paid janitor, receptionist and supply-orderer in all of Los Angeles.

Everyone has a dream they want to reach. If you support your higher up, they should do their part to support you and get you what you want in life. If that mutual "love" isn't happening where you are: find a new job! :)
Don't cover holes under or around you; death! Don't say you'll do something to look like the go-getter if you really don't intend to do it; you leave a last-minute panic for your senior to solve. I could go on and on...oh I already am.

Having been a female boss in a "mans" job, I was impressed with anyone who did the job 110% effort and a good attitude.

You will only can impress her by finishing the job on time and getting the job done with a success. She will be happy and trust you forever, but do not cheat a lady, they will be very upset.

Haha... if you're hot in the looks department, you can give her a lap dance.

Otherwise its just like any other boss, just be careful what you say, they are slightly more sensitive.

but i would throw a huge 200 pound tv at her,. it shows i can lift 200 pounds. IMPRESSIVE

You should be very polite and gentlemanly and you have to work very well. Always arrive on time at work.
