How come we speak English ,But we cant understand English people?

There are many reasons why English speaking countries do not necessarily understand each other.

Accents and slang/colloquialisms are probably the major reasons but the differences that catch me out every time I travel is the use of one word that means something else in another country.

Thong = a flip flop sandal or a item of underwear (a few red faces)
Glad Wrap, Cling Film or Plastic Wrap
Fries or Chips
Chips or Crisps
Ground Floor or 1st Floor
Gas or Petrol

These are just some of the many words that can catch you out but it is interesting seeing the look on peoples faces when they are trying to figure out what exactly you are saying.

That is very simple. You don't speak english, you speak a dialect that come from english. The English speak real english

the english it's a lingua franca.. the english speaking countries like USA and UK have the power.. that's one of the reason that the other countries need to speak english.. as well the english is a simple language not like spanish or german

Maybe you're not 'speaking' english so much as reciting it.

Also you have to keep in mind that colloquialisms and slang are sometimes hard to grasp.

hiya!! I stay and became born in England haha (unfortunetly) properly I also have a great style of relatives in usa so i will understand the two accents/vocab fantastically plenty.. So "innit do" is away of asserting "isnt it nonetheless" yet is likewise a fashion of agreeing via asserting "ennit" = "isnt it!" wish that helped haha. I come from the midsection of england the place we talk a loaddd of slang, in basic terms approximately like a distinctive language. I dont particularly talk that rapid.. yet i understand some who do. chinese language? LOL I talk a great style of chinese language, and its plenty greater stable than any British accessory. What area of england did you bypass to? =3 Accents selection a lot finding on the area.. in case you desire to be taken heavily, i advise retaining eye touch. it works with me haha... or you will get a great style of "Innits" XD BTW to the guy on approximately chavs, thats particularly offensive as im no longer a chav and its area of the talk right here to assert "innit" :/

It is just the way they slang or twang...Once you live in their respective countries long enough and when you get back to your home country, your folks too will find it hard to understand you...
