Talk to a professional hairstylist. In many states, they have to actually take college courses and earn a degree in order to get a job in the salons.

All chemical treatments damage hair, just like the sun, chlorine, heat from blow dryers and curling irons etc..... A good way is to go to the salon and have them permanently straighten your hair. But if that is not in your budget....you can buy an at home "Perm" kit and instead of using the curlers, you brush the chemicals through your hair for the amount of time that you would have left it on your hair if you were perming it. Just keep brushing and combing and it will help you permanently straighten the hair. After wards, make sure you deep condition your hair to help bring it back to shining, healthy life.

Seek advice from a licensed professional stylist.

Chemical treatments to straighten your hair have improved greatly over the past few years. They provide excellent results with minimal damage. However, if your hair is color treated, lightened especially, you are more prone to damage resulting from a chemical straightening process. Many techniques are high-dollar services and can require as much as a full day at the salon.

A safer, less damaging alternative to chemical treatments is temporary styling, specifically using a flatiron. I recommend seeking a pro's advice and direction with your specific style. Many new flatirons are ceramic, safer for your hair in that it seals the moisture within and reduces damage while styling. I use a ceramic iron infused with tourmaline crystals in my salon. It requires less heat to straighten your hair, adds shine, seals in moisture and smooths. You can find similar types at a Sally Beauty Supply store and most discount stores.

The advantages to flatiron styles is that you do very little damage and you can always get your curls back by shampooing your hair. Chemical treatments are permanent and may require retouch services in 4 -6 weeks.

Best of luck!
