I broke my foot in June and was in a cast for about 8 weeks. When the cast came off, I was like a snake in the process of shedding my skin. I scraped at the dry skin with my fingers (I know, yuck!) and then moistened it and moisturized it...a lot. Before long, it was back to normal. Just don't scratch or scrape hard. And don't do it around anybody. My family got grossed out when I did it.

I have had 6 knee surgeries, so I am familiar with what you are saying! If you have a scar, check with your dr. before getting anything wet...use a mild exfoliate/body scrub. Be sure to wet your legs and GENTLY rub the body scrub on. After rinsing, pat dry, and use a very rich, moisturizing cream. The main thing is to be gentle with this tender skin for a while. The muscle will be atrophied and it will take some physical therapy to get that muscle back in shape. Meanwhile, be easy on yourself and the skin!

After a good thorough wash, you can use a cocoa butter lotion. Palmers is pretty good. Make sure that the skin is still damp for maximum absorption. Make sure you lotion the way you did before the cast, it should heal the skin and make it softer after a few days and take a way alot of the dryness.

MOISTURIZE AND EXFOLIATE! It is important to get rid of the dead suface skin cells that have been trapped in the cast. Your skin could look dull and dry if you do not exfoliate. Also moisturize after exfoliation to nourish your tender skin. I would think to use an aveeno product for exfoliation and cocoa butter for moisture. This should come to about 7 bucks. Enjoy!

Go get a new one, when I broke my foot my cast got damp and I just left it alone; when they took it off it was all moldy inside. EWWWW! Trust me, you don't want that. It was pretty nasty.
