I read half of it (should probably have finished it, which I might do in the future.) She had some good point, mainly highlighting the institution of 'Ishdihad' where Muslims themselves can keep an eye on whats going on with their religion; free thought. This is applicable to todays world where some people are wildly misinterpreting the religion, hence the result being nasty attacks on INNOCENT civilians, which it totally condemned in Islam.
One thing I will hold against her, she goes to say that she is openly a lesbian with a girlfriend. My understanding of Homosexuality in Islam is this: The religion takes sexuality and sex as two different and independent things. So, If your straight, this doesn't give you the right to have sex with many women before marriage, you can only have sex within the marriage. The Quran acknowledges that people can have homosexual thoughts and tendencies but these should not be acted upon sexually. Now, if she researched the religion to the extent of being able to write a book about it she should have known this, which she either does know and disregards or doesn't know. This is quite hypocritical in my opinion.

You'll find contradiction in both the Bible and the Quran, if you look for them. Islam isn't really that much different than Christianity. The only reason that people of either religion believe that the "other" religion is a lot different is because they want to belong to the group that is right so that they can feel justified in believing that everyone else is wrong... I'm not talking about enlightened Muslims or Christians, of course, just the majority of the people in these religions. Definitely learn Arabic, though. It is a beautiful language. Modern Standard Arabic is the way to go. It is basically the Arabic of the Quran with more modern terms added to it. It is also the Arabic used in popular literature and in the media. Every region has it's own Arabic, but MSA is the best place to start. Read up on Islam. Start working with the Five Pillars, praying five times a day and all that good stuff. You can buy an alarm clock, if you want, that will sound off the call to prayer at the proper times. Also, go to the local mosque and begin interacting with other Muslims. Immerse yourself.... and to become a Muslim, all you have to do is say, "There is no God but God, and Muhammed is the prophet of God." and mean it in your heart. For it to be official, though, you will need at least two other Muslims present to witness this. I don't remember what the "proper" Arabic way of saying this is at the moment, so I am not going to translate it. Also, personally I like Abdullah Yusuf Ali's translation of the Quran the best so far... I have a copy that has the Arabic, the Romanization of the Arabic, and the English translation in it. It makes things a little bit easier.

Irshad Manji is quite sharp and witty, and in a TV interview I remember her saying that she may be half Muslim, but fully lesbian, and her book, which I haven't read, but have heard discussed on several occasions, is a reflection of her statement. It's the opinion of a person who has a little knowledge of Islam, and a little knowledge is often misleading. In an era when religion is being changed to fit the prevailing secular morality, her book was given a lot of undeserved publicity.

Never heard of that. And that book is not important for me to read. I have enough books and sources if I need any information about Islam.

If satan right a book against Jesus( pbuh), what do think about it? While Satan was the close to God before his disobidience, and has some knowledge.
Manji has no knowledge of religion at all. There is no significance what she wrote.
