I have a question for honorably discharged U.S veterans. Are there any honorably discharged veterans who think the military was a waste of time? I am a seven year honorably discharged Navy vet. Since my discharge, I have yet to capitalize on any benefits or any type of recognition for employment opportunities including government jobs. However, I've used my GI bill to earn a college degree which partially paid for my education. I read a startling statistic that pointed out that 1 out of 4 veterans end up homeless ( what a shame). It seems that the so called benefits that vets are available to everyone; and the benefits that are available usually comes tied up with administrative red tape. From my perspective, those who only benefit are commissioned officers. I know I will get comments about being proud of myself for serving my country; but I say what for? I feel that these so-called veteran benefits are exaggerated and overrated. In retrospect, I wish I'd took another route.

I cant speak for all branches but I know the AF has a transition program. We dont just get thrown out into the streets when our time is up. We have ways of transitioning to civilian life and getting a job before we even get out. Matter fact you have the option to start the program once your option to reenlist comes up.

Does the Navy have something like this?

Sorry to hear you are having so many problems. If you liked the benefits of the military have you looked at coming back into the military. Maybe even into a diffrent service.

Sorry but "J B W " is full of it. Vietnam had nothing to do with defending America. America lost and now the Vietnamese have landed and taking over the Cornerstores.
Sadly your Stat of 1in4 speakes volumes about Vietnam, and the same will be true following Iraq.
Sadly hind sight is 20/20. Hang in there and good luck. Also I hate to say it but government agencies have no problems lying. Take Care.

I'm sure if you go back as far as Nam, there are plenty.
Be proud of yourself, that you did serve. In my day
alot ran...the rest of us went for honor, God and Country.
Back in the day, it certainly wasn't about benefits.
