The oldest book in print today!
but what about the new & more new chapters being included??
why are their new testaments & old ones???
Why not one complete book like the HOLY QURAN.
Actually the only book that has not yet been changed to a full stop or an alphabet is the holy Quran.
Just tell me How many People have learnt Bible by heart.
Exact word to word...
I guess none...
Not even the Pope has learnt bible by heart....
BUT
Quran is the only book that can be & IS being learnt by heart by billions of muslims.....
& exact word by word....
from first alphabet to the last one...
& no one can make the entire billions of muslims forget the Quran....
Even if all the written Quran is lost, the billions of muslims can recreat it in written form exactly word by word....
Now tell me how many christians U know have learnt Bible by heart??
Just seen around, in ur family or friends or in the church...
Can u find atleast 10 people who have learnt Bible by heart word by word???
Here I can find 17 in my relatives who are Quran learners by heart...
So now tell ....
Which holy book is more taken care of??
Which is same as it was at the time it came upon us...??
Quran is the right answer....

Just how sure that the bible you read from (whichever variant it is...King James, New American, etc.) is even remotely close to the same bible that "god" inspired? People reject it for the same reason we reject The Illiad, or the Epic of Gilgamesh...it's nothing more than epic storytelling. History has proven this. The bible contradicts itself so many times it ridiculous.
As for why its the oldest book in print: because during the Dark and Middle Ages, the church used superstition and fear to turn itself into the highest power in the world. Humans hand down stories verbally thru generations, and due to the fear inspired, these stories survived longer than most. The bible was also the first book printed on a movable type press.
If this book is god's word, then I hope his editors got sent to hell, that's how bad of a job they did.
One last note (and I have to paraphrase Penn & Teller here...ok just Penn) Candle in the Wind by Elton John is the #1 selling song of all time...popular doesn't mean good, or in the case of the bible, right.

First of all, it's still here because there are a lot of people who believe it. Also, our country is composed mostly of Christians (If your from US as well), so it's a good market. And as the first guy said...it's not exactly the oldest book in print. And even if it was the oldest book in print, that doesn't qualify it above other beliefs. Christianity is actually a fairly new religiion in relation to religions such as Paganism and Judaism, too. Though, as I said, this doesn't qualify them over Christianity...it's just there are older beliefs...doesn't make them right or wrong.
Now, I am a practicing Pagan, so I don't see not following the Bible as "rejecting God's word" You can't view Christianity as the central religion. Just because I am not a Christian doesn't mean that I am rejecting yours. It means that I have my own. I am not differing from the "standard religion" of Christianity. I simply believe differently, and though your text has survived many generations (and many translations for that matter) I do not belleve that makes it any more accurate. I follow my heart and my soul when it comes to my religion, and they tell me to travel the path that I am traveling. So I am not rejecting your God....I simply have my own. And maybe they are one in the same. Maybe we just call our creators by a different name...

I'm going to have to echo all the others who point out that the epic of Gilgamesh, Egyptian book of the dead, and a number of Chinese narratives existed before the first books of the Bible.
A better question, I think, is why one would argue that because a book is especially old it must also be true. Or for that matter, just because a book is the most popular (which the Bible may be), why that would also mean it must be the truest. Just because a text has survived for thousands of years and is widely popular does not mean that everyone has to agree that it is god's word -- sorry!

i'm Agnostic, and that i do no longer think the bible is out dated, it incredibly is an quite sturdy handbook for residing your existence properly, extraordinarily for people who're guard with ritual and others who're the tempted and week minded. In different words faith is the opiate of the a lot (Marx) yet the place the bible thumpers are available in, it is while people get became off, we don't ought to take heed to your consistent babbling and how u.s. needs to be run as a theocracy. The bible isn't the only e book from centuries in the past, however the only e book mass reproduced. that's what pisses me off approximately bible thumper is all of them think of Satanist are cannibals, pedophiles and perverts, while incredibly it incredibly is often executed by capacity of persons that declare to be religious!

Although I am a believer, ask yourself this: Why is it the most read book? Is it because it is truly the Word, or because the idea of Christianty was forced on native people all over the world by settlers and explorers. The actions of these people thus created an atmosphere of mandatory belief, which is still (somewhat) in place today. Just think of all those people who still profess belief just to keep their families happy. Why is it that people try to "patent" God and keep Him only for themselves? Is it not possible that He had a hand in the writing of the Q'uran, or helped Budda reach enlightenment and nirvana?

Alright, so my AP Biology book was published in 2005. Are you saying it doesn't have any credibility because it's young? That's basically the absurd idea you're pushing at us by saying that by being the "oldest book in print" (which it isn't) the Bible is the truth. By the way, the Bible hasn't been unchanged throughout history.
And how many books were burned and destroyed by those crusaders or even by anybody, throughout history? Cities have been sacked, libraries have been ravaged. Who's to say that the "truth", even though I doubt a sole truth exists, wasn't in one of those texts? History is written by the winners.

What does it being the oldest book have to do with belief or disbelief? It's NOT god's word - it's a bunch of stories written by men about a god. There are lots of books that have been around for hundreds of years - why not make a religion out of one of them, if you're using age as your logic.

There is no logic in your statement which was masked as a question.
I care little if the Bible stays around or goes away.
You say the Bible is Gods word, prove it.
There is a condition worst than being blind and that is to imagine that one sees.

1. I don't believe it is any god's word.
2. It is not the oldest book in print today. Gilgamesh is older, as is the Iliad, the Odyssey, and Beowulf. Why don't you believe in any of them since, by your logic, the oldest must be right?
