Superman is nowhere close to being the toughest hero, between the main resilient yet no longer toughest. His protection potential he does not go through plenty harm. Heroes like Wolverine, Spiderman, Oracle, and others who've particularly long previous in the process the grinder are greater durable. so some distance as Superman getting crushed, sure there are a number of that can beat him. Sure. For just one instance, read Philip Wylie's "Gladiator", whose hero was injected with a special serum (like Captain America in Marvel Comics) that gave him super strength, super speed, skin proof against anything short of a 75mm antitank gun, and the ability to make out with babes. (I think Captain America's serum didn't have that last effect.)

May I recommend Sgt. Alvin York for the state of Tennessee. I believe he won a Congressional Medal of Honor. He was a veteran from our area.

superman was the first and he came out after WW1--wonder woman was the best known super hero in WW2 because that's when she was created, and let's face it, she rules!
