If i get accepted to USC as a transfer student for next fall, i'll need to apply for financial aid. without scholarships, how much do you think it will cover? my grades are pretty good: all A's and one B. my parents said they can only afford to pay 20 of the $50,000 tuition(that includes room/board, books, food, and other fees). so that means i need financial aid to cover the other $30,000. is that possible? my parents dont make too much money, and i have a job, but its an internship, so i dont get paid. so if i apply for financial aid and fafsa, how much do you think it will cover?? thanks!

It is impossible without more information to know how much financial aid you will get that is need based from both the federal government and the college itself. It is based on your parents' income along with your income. So, it becomes important to apply for scholarships and grants.

I recommend still applying at FAFSA.ed.gov because it can help you tap into need based financial aid at USC and the federal government.

Second, apply for state college grants. I have included a link to their website. Also, it can help you into work study employment on campus.

Third, if there are college's that offer merrit scholarships if your grades are kept above a certain point. I could not tell if USC was one of them though.

Fourth, search Google.com and Yahoo.com for scholarships based on your college major and religion. Sometimes, you can locate scholarships based on this.

Finally, join several free membership scholarship search websites. Most are updated on a regular basis. Work hard on the essays and have someone proofread them before sending them. Even the smallest scholarship means one less loan to repay. Also, there are some that are not income based scholarships.

Good luck!

Third, work on keeping your grades up because

well they have a new thing out now when you apply i got 800 bucks that was the left over after my tution was paid for. IT also depends if you are a full time part time too. It should cover all the expenses expect for books it is not supposed to cover books but since they have gotten that new thing out it just might i forget what it is called but just put your finacil aid in anyway then when you get it you can find out. I had to wait they gave me an H number at my school and only when my finacil aid was in i was able to find out how much it was going to cover but it always had covered my tutition. I think depends on what kind of school you go to I GO to HORRY GEORGETOWNTECH. Which is next too Universty of south Carolina.
I would just call the school and see. GOOD LUCK

Yup. Financial aid only gives at most $4000.00. Some people don't even get that. For the dorm you'll just have 2 take out a loan or/and work part-time to make it easier. It’s better if you avoid the dorm especially if you aren't financially stable. Since it can put a real strain on your budget.
