I have seen several personal ads where guys put down "looks or age not important". But is that even normal for a guy? Arnt' men biologically shallow? Any theories?

Well, a certain minimum standard has to be met - but beyond that, looks don't matter all that much to me. If anything, I tend to be leery of the supermodel types: from what I've seen, they tend to have their priorities messed up.
Looks are nice - to look at. If I'm going to have a relationship with someone, I place much higher priority on intelligence, respect and consideration for others, and self-confidence. Looks are pretty far down the list of what I consider important, as long as that minimum standard is met.

Ugly men are not shallow. That's pretty much saying "I will date anything". Most normal looking to good looking guys are shallow to some point. If looks or age doesn't matter to a guy, he is probably kinda old and kinda ugly...and let's not mention desperate. Most guys like to date a woman they believe as "good looking" as them, or slightly hotter, or slightly less hot if she is cool as all hell. It's shallow but I think most people who are not desperate work that way.

age and looks not important ...lol...maybe hes genuine ..he wont be too upset with you if you were less appealing ....he might be straight forward and he wants to get to know you personally instead of oggling at your physique...believe it or not there are some guys that are like that and dont care he wants a gf not a supermodel....there are still some nice guys out there still not all men are jerks ....

I agree with the first answer. As humans beings, that's by law # 1. Appearance, whether we do consciously or not.
As a woman, in this day and age I would be very concerned if my man doesn't care how I look. He doesn't have to be obsessed but at least I want to know that we keep each other in check.

I would be wary of personal ads, to me there has to be something that attracts me. I have learned looks are nor everything. I asked this girl to dance once I thought she was fantastic looking. After listening to her while we danced, her voice turned me off. It was a high pitch sound.

i am not a shallow person and i dont look for looks all i do care about is how she treats me and how she is wiith me . after that im the best guy she would ever have

whereas this may seem good it is most likely not true. in a realtionship you want to have physical attraction and guys are theones who usually pay more attention to girls' looks. this means they don't really care about you, they're just trying to feed their own desires.
