It would appear so, but maybe it was just an overreaction.

Our Heavenly Father gives us life and it totally up to Him what He does with us. At the time God caused a great flood to come upon the earth, The earth was so full of sin, He decided to destroy the evil people. He found one family who was righteous, obedient, and loved Him . I believe the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. Praise God for who He is. He is the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end. May God Bless You. Good question, hope this answer will help you.

Hi lmafatpigg. Part of the answer to your question can be found by reading Isaiah 45:7 (God is speaking about Himself)

"I form the Light, and create darkness: I make Peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things."

This passage tells us of God's Total Authority over all creation. Now, when we speak of evil, we have to understand that evil takes on many different forms. When we see hurricanes, tsunamis, or earthquakes and the destruction they cause, we know that this is an evil thing. However, these are not sinful acts. God causes or allows these things to happen. He is in charge of all natural disasters, there is no mother nature as most weather reporters claim.

Another form of evil is sin. Sin is a direct rebellious act against God. Mankind creates this evil (sin). God does not create sin, Scripture will not allow it. To come under the Wrath (Judgment) of God is very evil. God set up His Judgment Day for all of the unsaved. This is the worst evil a person can experience.

Jesus taught us in the Lords prayer found in Luke 11:4,
to pray to the Father (God) and ask Him:

"And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil."

Here Christ is talking about the day of evil (Judgment day).

YES.... if you really believe that the story "The Great Flood" really existed in the history fo the world!!! But if you would ask some Bible scholars.... they will tell you that those stories were just reactions of people after they were captured by the Babylonians and they are starting to rebuild their identities as people.... keep on asking.... God might have the answer.... you might found the answer along the way.... Good luck!!!!

I'd say so. If God is the creator of everything, that means he's capable of evil too.

There was an answer on here that seems correct though... it was an overreaction. Thus the whole story about the rainbow and the promise not to do it again.

The character of "god (YHVH)", made up by the writers of the bible, is accredited with many vile, evil acts. The Bible has it's god ordering the deaths of entire cities....men, women and children. So much for family values.
Read the whole Bible sometime...it will make an atheist/agnostic out of you.

Is it evil for a surgeon to cut a cancer out of your body? And God didn't 'try' to wipe out life on earth. He took special steps to avoid just that.

No.
GOD was very sad that with all the help he/she gave humans still refused to control their free will to only be good to each other. Instead humans choose to be evil. To the point of insulting GOD, and killing very good people for fun. (or worse.)
It can't be easy to watch a young child of yours drink (or use drugs, etc) her/his self to death - knowing if they stopped they could live happier. Try magnifying that to a whole planet of your children. How sad for GOD to watch that.
That's why GOD said he/she will never do that again.

Look at it in this context, in biblical times people had to explain why things were happening. So when ever something wrong happened they believe God was punishing them. Now since we have come to understand why things happen, we don't blame God. But if they knew what we knew, then they wouldn't blame God for everything. You can't blame God for any human error, because he gave us free will we can blame him for are mistakes.

The evil by the people of that was violence and it infected everything even the future, so something on a wide scale had to be done.

Wiping out everyone because he was 'sad' shows that God does indeed make mistakes. Which can only mean that he is not omniscient. Not having the power to know the future makes him non omnipotent.

Oh dear.
