yes, i work in podiatry office. you need to try a great web site for information and help with foot conditions, myfootshop.com. the site has articles and a discussion forum with a doctor. the condition is easily controlled with a heel lift and some reduction in activity. use the source as link to site, i think you will find it helpful.

I don't have personal experience, but did a search at metacrawler and found a very good link with lots of info: http://www.athleticadvisor.com/Injuries/LE/Foot&Ankle/sever's_disease.htm

The good news is that this problem should go away on its own as your son finishes his growth spurt. Bad news is it seems like it hurts like a b*tch.

I do have experience with plantar fascitis (heel spurs) and from looking at the above link the exercises suggested for it seem the same, and the type of pain and suggestions for dealing with it seem similar. I know for a fact that wearing shoes at all times when not lieing down has helped me because it supports the foot. I strongly advise you to get your son a pair of those butt ugly Crocs (the plastic clog looking shoes with the holes that are hopefully the innest thing in your area). (crocs.com) Since I have been wearing them, my heel pain has all but disappeared.
