That's somthin to pray about. I've cried in church before I've ran in church before .. Where the spirit of the Lord is there is freedom. Some folks Get all wrapped up it Let the Spirit Move in this place and by doing so somtimes you may find people just 'playing church' but when there is unity it is good to dwell together.

The Bible shows that the Holy Spirit can have strong effects on people's behavior. But scripture also explains that the Holy Spirit's purpose is to testify that Jesus is the Christ. Why people think that being out of control emotionally and physically is a sign that God is upon them is puzzling. If people claim to be experiencing the Holy Spirit, but their experience is not in some obvious way glorifying Jesus as our savior, then it is a questionable manifestation.
The Bible also explains that Satan, who is also known as The Deceiver, can create counterfeit spiritual experiences, and therefore, we have to be careful and exercise discernment when we are having spiritual experiences.
Read the Bible, especially the New Testament, carefully so you can understand these things for yourself. Don't rely on what other people tell you. Some churches and demoninations have had divisions and fighting over these peculiar manifestations that make churches look more like zoos than houses of God. Look up "Toronto Blessing Movement" on the internet to learn more about other churches where this type of thing is going on.
If you confront the people you go to church with about the truth (or untruth) of what they are doing in church, be prepared for them to be very defensive, and quite unhappy with you for questioning them. They will probably even tell you that you don't love Jesus, or that you have been deceived by the devil. But like I said, if you care about your relationship to the Lord, then "study to show yourself approved" (2Ti 2:15), and follow Him according to your study and your prayer, and not according to what others tell you is true.

The Holy Spirit is God.
What makes most people I have seen run around the room, cry, scream ect is just pure emotions, and has little to do with the work of the Holy Spirit.

That sounds like you're talking about "charismatic" churches, of which I personally disagree with. We are to glorify Jesus, not the Holy Spirit by doing a bunch of silly antics. And the Holy Spirit will ALWAYS glorify Jesus as well. Can you imagine any unbelieving onlookers in the church that day as this is going on? No wonder they think all Christians are NUTS!

Tina H,
I call it unfortunate. Where being charismatic expression takes precedence over wise and disciplined expression of worship. I have been touched by the Holy Spirit, and have been touched many times. But I do not need to run around and scream during any of those experiences.

Seriously, I think it is emotionalism, not "Spirit-filled." You can observe the same kinds of behavior among uncivilized tribal people, or intoxicated people. The evidence of being Spirit filled is not that a person runs around screaming, but that he or she no longer habitually sins. They may slip up from time to time, or even fall back for a time, but they always come back. Their overall disposition is that they love God.

The Holy Spirit is the wisdom you receive from God and his word.
The people crying, screaming and running around.........I have no answer for you. All churches are different. If this is not comfortable, try another faith.

I personally believe that's a form of self induced mass hysteria. Like in the past, well meaning people can get to together to form a lynch mob baying for blood. Whenever, a group of people gets together, they work themselves into a frenzy, and this causes them to regress back to pack mentality. You can even say any pop concert could be another example ( to a lesser extent) of this phenomenon

It's mind over matter. They convince themselves that they're having a profound experience with the "divine" and their body and natural chemicals react accordingly. Adrenaline can make you feel like you're a foot away from omnipotence. It's a natural high.
