Well she is in heat every 6 months. But if she does get pregnant then allow the pups to mature and her to regain her strength before re-mating her.

If you want to breed your dog, do it no earlier than 2 years of age.
Dogs should not be bred more than once a year and shouldn't be bred over the age of 6 years. A lot of people breed their dogs every 6 months but that tires the dog down and will shorten her life dramatically.
If you do not know what you're doing when breeding dogs, I suggest you spay/neuter your dog(s) before anything can go wrong.

They come into heat about every 6 months but they should only be bred once a year. Any more often than that is not good for the dog. They need to recover and get back to normal. Skip a heat and breed her on the next one.

I totally agree with you pwabit1. I think people need to go to shelters and look at all the puppies/adult dogs there. If your breeding for the breed standard, there are alot of important tests(genetic/heatlh) that need to be done first. Unfortunetly there are many people who are just in it for the $$$ and don't care. It really irritates me when I read questions about the care of puppies "after"they are born. DUH didn't you do all your research "before" hand to ensure healthy happy puppies. And what about the mommy??? She need special care after giving birth. OK, I know I went off in a different direction, I apologize probably should have just made a new post to vent my views...

Responsible, professional breeders usually breed females once every 2 or 3 years. It is too harsh on their bodies to allow them to breed even once a year, let alone more than once.

If you care about your dog, only once per year. Some will breed every six months, that's hard on the dog and selfish of the owner.

Over breeding a dog can and will kill it, female that is. Her body will need time to recover from the stress of pregnancy, labor and delivery, and taking care of the pups. They should be bred no more than once per year!!

They come in heat twice a year but should only be bred once a year. If the dog has to have a c-section, you should wait about a year and a half.

Well, I think you should breed them once a year. But, they can be bred in around march and then around september. Only twice at the MOST.
