children learn through play. I don't focus on learning with my children, but we do a lot of art and singing.
He is 3, so he doesn't need to sit down to lessons, life is lesson enough.
With my children, we catch the bus often (because they love it), anyways, sitting at the bus stop can be boring, but I ask them the colour of the cars going by...they love it, because they get to pass time, and they LOVE cars, so it concerntrates on something they like.
Another I do, is make up silly songs about anything, and they respond according to the song. It is about having fun and enjoying your children, if they see you enjoying your time with them, then they will learn things from you that you couldn't even imagine teaching them.
Get them to cook in the kitchen, collect things at the beach or park, get them to help you with the shopping....all of these things are learning experiences, and something they will love doing with you, because it is a game.
as for computer games, make them all educational, but limit the amount of time he spends on them...simple playing teaches them far more than a computer can.

For God's sake he is 3 yrs. old, everyone wants a genius for a child these days, what's wrong with this picture? The child will learn at his rate of speed soon enough for now let him grow and explore whatever he likes and stop being the over bearing and demanding parent u r turning into. Everything that u r doing can and most likely will back fire on u later on when he's a teenager and u r going to ask ur self "Where did I go wrong?" Well here it is staring u right in the face. Teach him, guide him, walk beside him, help him find his way, teach him all that he must do and he will be okay.

Start with a snack and exercise
Establish a routine
Be a role model
Stay positive
Remember children shouldn't be watching no more than an hour
per day, that includes T.V., Computer, Video games.
You need to put a stop now before is too late, and make sure you address this problem to his pediatrician.
Sometimes Libraries have programs for toddlers.
Just get out of the house. Turn off the computer.
Also, since he likes computers, try Reader Rabbit learning CD-R
they come with tons of learning activities, like Math, Grammar,
Spelling, and its fun to play.
You could buy PC CD-ROM from Living Books, they come in different stories and they all come with learning games to play.
Among these: Just Grandma and Me
Arthur's Reading Race
Toy Story
Winnie the Pooh
Sheila Rae the Brave (this one is loaded with
tons of games, stories (Estella Luna), and they could read along.
You could find them at Costco, Fry's Electronics, Target, Wal-mart, Circuit City. Just to name a few. But remember no more than 1 hour!

If he is computer savvy at 3 I would say he is well advanced for his age. There are a lot of learning programs for computers for children. Check online or better yet, go to your local library and rent a few that you may think he might like. Then if he seems interested in them, you can purchase them for him. Google computer learning games for 3 year olds- it should help you.

My strongest suggestion as a recently retired preschool/elem teacher is to get him off all video games and TV. I expect you won't like this answer, but those games are proven to be addictive. And the mind engages with them in a very stimulated way which kids enjoy, so when you try to interact like you were speaking about, it seems boring and dull. yes, he does have tons of time. I would love to see him using his large motor skills as they develop first and set up the sites in the brain for later development and if not set up in the brain, learning later can become difficult.

I think a three-year old needs a lot of stimulation to keep him focused on a certain activity, especially that their attention span is too short ast this age. Make learning activities fun. What would you like to teach him? Children at this age needs to develop the use of his senses and perception. You help him experience the world by seeing, touching, smelling, tasting, and hearing the things around him. Play is the medium of education at this age.

3 is early to expect him to sit still to learn...unless you can make it super fun! All kids learn differently...mine love to play flash cards because we made them a game. Just find what his "thing" is and make that work.......I wouldn't recommened too many computer games though because that could start bad habits of always being on the computer.....

Make learning a game. If you get down on his level while playing and just make what you are working on fun he will like it. When he gets bored change to something else.

Make learning fun and keep the sessions short. Find learning games he can play.
Remember he is a 3-year-old, not a grad student.

thats because he is 3! sorry, all ur gonna get him exited about are the games and puzzles so go with it. Also, kids often imitate what they see around them-so read a book in front of your child or take a class-kids are sooo susceptible to monkey see, monkey do. my son has an IQ of 137 and i never MADE him do anything. Also, one really good way to get him/her to start to read and spell are the magnetic letters that go on the fridge. I would have my son spell names and then sound them out.
