A freestyle bike and a BMX bike are different animals. Freestyle bikes are meant to be heavily built, so, NO, do not try to make it lighter.

Ok, let me say the people who have answered this questions are just plain wrong. I have been designing bmx frames and components since I graduated engineering school 8 years ago. First off, 27 pounds is quite light for a freestyle BMX bike, period. Yes, there are some bikes that are as light as about 23 pounds or so, but anything below 26 pounds and you really start to sacrifice strength, especially in frames and bars. An ultralight 11 b bar is not as strong as a 4 piece or 30 oz bar. End of story. Your bike is plenty light. A light bike doesn't make it easier to ride, it just allows you to ride longer without getting sore. It won't even make your b-hob higher because BMX is 99% technique.BMX is the only branch of cycling where the bike works as a counterweight to your body weight (ie you can throw the bike, but the weight of the bike can also help throw you) so s bit of weight is a good thing. BMX is the most misunderstood branch of cycling - people are clueless.

That's totally up to you. My S&M is hovering around the 25lb. mark and I have never had any problems with parts breaking on it. That being said, I do change out my frame and forks every 9 months or so...just to avoid an untimley failure. Also take into consideration things like your riding style and body weight. If you are a beginner or excessivly harsh on your bike then stay with the stock weight. And finally look at the brand of bike you have, I'll take my 25lb. bike over a 40 pounder of lesser quality anyday.

cut the handle bars down narower
cut the seatpost off beloew were it goes into the frame
get some lighter gauge spokes(makes a huge difference in bikewieght as well as handling)
lighter rims from danscomp

it will have to depend on what you do and what you get for this weight. if you only do spins and otherstuff other than catching big air then you will be fine but if you like air i would suggest a thinner and lighter frame that is strong enough for the kind of stuff u do. if you like to spin ur bike then you can get more spins out of it if it was heavier but u will need to be strong too.

Every bike is (and should be) designed with certain design parameters in mind. This is done by professionals (and should be). You should not alter anything from it to get promised results.
