If you could plan your next life , and you were told that you had only two choices, the first would be that you will have none of what the world holds valuable (beauty, wealth superficial suff), your life would be full of struggles and hardships OR you would have all the characteristics that the world will admire, but you will have no relationship with god, which would you choose?

Stuff is just stuff.

Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full, in his wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of his glory and grace

To play along with your hypothetical scenario, I would choose to have a relationship with God whatever the cost, although you don't include this in your first option here. Hardships and struggles without God would be as pointless as wealth, etc., without God.

I would choose God over everything, as I do now. That is, this alleged second life doesn't sound much different than the life I have now. And note that the life I have now, which includes a relationship with God--I am grateful for.

If I believed I was moving on to a second life (I don't - which is why I respect the earth and my fellow man *now*), I would take #2. I don't believe in God as is, and already have had struggles and hardships (ironically, during the time in my life when I believed in God *gasp*!). With the second, someone could actually make headway in helping poor people since you could be famous, helping hungry people since you could persuade governments to be more legitimate, and so forth.

However, both of your choices are contengent upon the belief in God - therefore, my choice really isn't relevant unless you allow for people to disbelieve.

A guaranteed good life now, versus an irrational yet 'potential' good afterlife?

Bring on the the superficial stuff!

I might point out, however, that it is a loaded question. You're implying that a relationship with god is possible, and not so while one is rich. You might as well have asked "Do you want to have a really hard life, or do you want to go to hell for all eternity? Stop trying to make your life better, you're only angering him!"

I would choose to have a relationship with God because my life in Heaven would be much better and much longer than anyone's life on earth. And who cares if the world admires you if the most important person, GOD, does not.

I would choose the logical choice, which is a relationship with God.

Mark 8, 35-36

For whoever wants to save his life will lose it; and whoever will lose his life for my sake and the sake of the Good News will save it.

For what does it profit a man, to gain the whole world, and forfeit his life?

A relationship with God, here is why been there done that got 10 t-shirts, however thru the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ who died for our sins and resurrected on the 3rd day, I do not have to wear any of those shirts. Love the Lord and do his works and your life will be blessed. a2J
