You need to find motivation to do things and be happy. If you are stressed, keep in mind that most of the things you are stressed about (work, school, gf/bf, etc...) will probably not be at all important to you in a month, maybe even in a week or tomorrow.
What I do to prevent myself from being stressed is to think about what I just said, take a deep breath, and just relax. I don't know exactly what your situation is, but just remember that everything will turn out okay in the end(it always does) and try and look at the bigger picture. Don't stress about the little things.
As for depression, maybe you're just feeling bummed about stuff because you don't want to do anything. I always get depressed if I end up staying in my house for prolonged periods of time. So, even though you might not want to, get out of the house! Call up one of your friends that you haven't seen in a while and ask them to see a movie with you, or do something fun that you've never done before. You might be depressed if you are just bored with your life. So, go snowboarding (if there's snow where you are), try a weird ethnic restaurant, join a yoga or ballroom dancing class with a friend, even if you think it's ridiculous because you will still end up having a good time.
I hope this helps some. If you're depressed, you can always email me to talk, I don't mind. Sometimes you just need someone who is willing to listen to what's going on in your life. Good luck :)

Even if I tell you to do it, you won't do it... but some form of exercise is energy busting, good for you while you're depressing. Take time to say, "Ok, I've depressed enough for the day, now, I'm going to go for a walk, etc, then, when I'm done walking, and I start to depress again, I'll think about that step when it comes..." or, "I don't want to walk, just because this person says so, but, having complained now, I think I can still do it, ... and I'll do it,.. I'm walking to the drawer for my socks, ... I'm walking to the door, I'm ....." Wonder out aloud these activities as if you are writing out a story.
This is only a beginning ...

Therapy works well, if you want to do some work. I know it causes poor concentration (depression) Sleep disturbances, weight gain or loss, feeling like you are slipping into a black hole and then when you try to climb out you just can't. You lose interest in cleaning and other normal daily tasks, you don't have a libido, etc. These are also symptoms of anti-depressants

Exercise, nutrition, and find a therapist to help you figure out what's at the root of your depression. A good therapist can also help you determine if your depression is the type that's a serious physical illness or one that can be improved without meds. Good luck.
