Why are there holes drilled in bomb fins? For a noise(impending doom) effect, or for water drainage during storage? Any Air Force Weapons troops out there who know this one?

They had holes dilled in the fins for several reasons. Gave better accuracy by causing the bomb to spin instead of allowing a gliding effect with a free fall. Helped reduce the weight of the bomb, because trust me, those things aren't light by any means; so saving on weight anywhere you could was appriciated by the load crews. Also the holes would provide a point to use a lift rod if you had to load the bomb manually. This was very convenient during the times before the munition lifts.

The holes are there mostly to make the bomb fall in a controlled spin instead of just in a free-fall! Plus you get the benefit of a slight reduction in the weight of the bomb inself!

mostly for wieght reduction. a few pounds per hundred pounds weight for several hundred bombs makes a big difference when transporting the bombs as well as the amount of material needed to make the bombs.

For the exact same reason there are holes in doughnuts and Swiss Cheese.

This is a guess, but it more than likely has to do with aerodynamics.
