I was here before, asking why there are bald spots on my cats legs. And someone said it might of been allergies to fleas/ticks? Well i believe it's true now, after my cat slept on the couch, i found eggs. First i might of thought it was just dead skin/ dandruff, but they were round so i decided to check it out by poping them together with my nails and yup they snaped alright, flea eggs. What should i do now? I think this might explain everything wrong with my cat, violent tail chasing and growling, and the bald area on the hind legs. Maybe even epilispy? The first time i check out with the doctor about my cats siezures, i think he mentioned something about flea reactions? Someone please fill me in more? I really hate going back to the vet becasue it's not cheap for a visit.

It was only a little, i don't think i need to tear down my whole house! I give my cat baths regulary, but i think it's because i let her out my little balcony where she might be getting fleas from. I've used frontline before and it worked really well, it was when i first got her two years ago. At least i think it was frontline? Something like that.

I got Frontline and instead of applying between shoulderblades it kinda got off more to the side. Is it okay that my cat licks it? Of course it's not but it's nothing serious right? I'm sure whoever invited the product might of thought to make it nontoxic.

You need 2 medications for your cat to get rid of fleas: Frontline and Advantage. They can both be purchased at a veterinarian. One is a pill that starts acting immediately and lasts for 24 hours. That will begin getting rid of the fleas. The other is a gel that you apply between your cat's shoulder blades once a month. (make sure the cat doesn't lick it away before it dries...about 15-20 minutes...try distracting the cat while you apply it, with a few treats or feeding it or something).
The pills cost about 3 bucks apeice, the gel is about 15-20 dollars per application. i know it's kind of expensive, but the cheaper options really don't work (i had a bad flea infestation last year with my cat, trust me i tried everything, this is the only thing that worked).
Finally, you have to get rid of the fleas in your house as well. if you don't they will procreate and the situation will get completely out of control. I've tried the Raid flea bombs that you buy in the grocery store--they don't work well, you end up spending more money than just calling an exterminator because you have to bomb four or five times, and even that doesn't get rid of them all. call around to lots of independent exterminators in your area, you should be able to find someone to do it for about fifty bucks, less if you have a small apartment. try to find someone who sprays the floors, that's the treatment that works the best. it takes about ten days for the fleas to all die. DON'T vacuum or mop during this time, it will take the treatment away and you won't get rid of your fleas. depending on how bad your problem is you might need the exterminator to come again in about two weeks. most will do this free of charge.
Keep doing the frontline treatment every month, or you'll end up with this horrible problem again. trust me, it's worth the money, your cat will be much happier because of it.

To get rid of fleas you need to do a few things. Firstly get some Frontline or Revolution for your cat. These treatments go on the back of the cats neck and should last for one month. You should re-apply every month to keep the fleas and their eggs away. You also need to get rid of any eggs around the house, in the bedding or carpet. Get some flea powder or flea spray or even a flea bomb. Any pet shop will have these. Your cat is suffering with all these fleas bites - imagine if you were being continually bitten by mossies !!

Flea Allergy Dermatitis....I once owned a female that had the same problem, but she didn't lose any of her fur, just had lots of scabs.
We are currently battling a small flea infestation, and my husband and I are planning an all-out offensive tomorrow afternoon. We're going to take our male cat in for a flea dip, wash all the bedding and clothing in hot water, and spray the carpets and furniture with an insect spray. The insect sprays with insect growth inhibitors are the best because they prevent any eggs and larvae from maturing into biting, breeding adults.
Your cat should be put on a preventative like Advantage, Frontline Plus, or Revolution. I used Frontline Plus on my cat, but it didn't work. I know a woman who works in a vet's office and she said many complained that it didn't work on their cats. She said Revolution has worked wonders for her cats, though. I'm planning on getting Revolution or Advantage for my cat tomorrow so it can be applied a few days after his flea dip.
Because your cat's reaction is (seemingly) so bad, your best bet would probably be to take him in for a Capstar tablet. This will kill all the fleas on him within minutes. A flea dip might be too hard considering the condition of his skin. Once the Capstar has been administered, he can be put on a preventative and you can take steps to treat your home (because believe me, they're in your home now). But make sure you consult with the vet first to make SURE it's fleas. You don't want to treat him in the wrong manner, and you want to make sure that all of his symptoms are being caused by the fleas alone.
Good luck!

Get Revolution. Give your cat a bath with either a mild flea shampoo our dawn dish detergent. We used Dawn at the vet's office I worked for on kittens and puppies with fleas that were to small for flea shampoos because it is mild. Make sure you use the original blue one. put the Revolution on after your kitty dries. Spinkle some 20 Mule team Borax laundry detergent(you should be able to buy this in the grocery store or Wal-Mart) on your carpets and furniture. Leave it there for 24 hours and then vacuum. If your cat is an indoor/outdoor cat, go to a farmer's supply store and buy 10 percent seven dust powder and sprinkle it all over your yard. This all works. I promise.

The vets def not cheap but your gonna have to go. Once you go and get this taken care of hopefully it will make your kitty feel better and make for less trips to the vet. The vet will probly give you a few months worth of flea meds, and your probly gonna have to spray your house with something, ask your vet about that aspect of things to. They might be able to give you a spay which would be cheaper than calling someone to do it. However with most sprays i think you have to be out of the house for a few hours. BEst of luck! I hope your kitty feels better soon.

Treat your cat with Frontline Plus or similar, use bug bombs in every room of your house (make sure they kill fleas AND FLEA LARVAE!!) and you can vacuum your furniture/floors/pillows, wash linens, etc. to get rid of any extras. Make sure you clean your vacuum bag/cannister! One of my cats gets covered in scabs, she is so allergic to the bite of a flea, another one chews her hair out and has hugs bald spots on her side because they stay in the center of her back where she can't get to them, and the third cat has no reaction at all except to shake her head now and then because they stay around her face! Every cat reacts differently, depending on how allergic they are, or where the fleas go on their body.

You will need to treat your cat for fleas and also your house. Vaccum first and then use a flea spray on the floor, like Raid Flea Killer. It worked for us when we brought home a stray. 3 days and the fleas were gone.

call the vet and ask if he has revoloution or advantage flea drops he sells to his patients, he should sell them without charging for a visit, they are a small tube i paid 5 bucks for them but it might be more where you are, the tube is one months treatment, put them on the cat at the back of the neck and repeat each month, in about 2 months you wont find any flea eggs. and you might make it through jan, feb and march without any more drops but start in the spring, and thats if it gets cold in the winter where you are. if its warm all year you must treat them all year. good luck
