Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin, known to the world as Mary Shelley, and husband Percy were English, as was Lord Byron. The novel originated as the result of conversations between the three.

Are you referring to Dr Frankenstein or Dr Frankenstein's creation?

If it's the creation, let me explain something to you.
Dr Frankenstein made two 'monsters'. Not a lot of people know that.

The first one was a disaster.
Bolts through the neck, brain of a maniac, bad breath etc.

The second was far better.
Had a brilliant brain.

That's why he went to England, you see.
No idiots in England, other than a few drunk Scots and Irish. But we don't worry about them too much because they can't play football.

In fact I was having a quiet drink in a pub last night with my wife and this Scot came up to me, with a glass of beer in his hand, and said,

"Och noo n Jimmy yerbist huh drabble clank"

or words to that effect, which roughly translated means, "why do you think frankenstein goes to england?"

Because Mary Shelley (the authoress) was from Britain and wanted to set the story on more familiar territory.
