Sounds like you might be overmixing and getting too much air in the batter. Mix only according to package directions.

I get that result Every Time I use a Cake mix!
But If I make cake from scratch it comes out just right as long as I don't peak at it with opening the door! Are you using a Cake mix? If so try making cake from scratch! do you have the rack too close to the bottom or 2 close to the top? Are you overmixing it? Do you follow the recipe correctly? Are you taking it out before it's cooked? Is your oven good or does it do other things badly also?
Are you using a regular oven or a Microwave Oven? There's many other questions I could ask but I think you get the idea.. you only asked why your cakes have holes?! It's impossible for anyone but a psychic to know without information on your cooking way!

Too much air in the cake batter. You are over beating your batter.

You can get the air bubbles out by gently taking each pan in your two hands and slamming the pans filled with the batter flatly on the kitchen counter. This causes the air bubbles to rise to the top and go out of the batter.

check the leavening. Also tap the pan on the counter to bring air bubbles to the top. You also could be undermixing or overmixing. It's really difficult to say without more information. what type of cake? What do you mean exactly by holes?

I only have one suggestion. When you put the batter in the molds, pick the molds up about six inches off the counter and drop a couple of times , I found out that this releases the air in the batter, and not let the batter lose it's consistency

That is caused by air bubbles when u mixed tha batter too much... You'll know u have overmixed when there are holes in your cake or muffins...

I know the answer to this one: because you're making Donuts, No? Dang! I know, the holes are screaming out to fill them with Chocolate Mousse, gooood save. I got here late and I had to come up with something. Everyone here got it right, tap tap tap

air bubbles

bang your pan down on the counter a couple of times before you put it in the over to reduce them
