I have used Advantage and Frontline on my cats for years with no adverse effects. They bathe each other and get it in their mouths, but have never had any problem with either product. Just don't use the cheap stuff you get from the grocery store.

I don't know how effective it is, but I've heard it's more effective than Frontline. I'm planning on getting some for my cat tomorrow (either that or Revolution). It's perfectly safe. There have been reports of animals having adverse reactions, but this is true for any medication, and the reported cases are much smaller than those from OTC treatments. The Advantage is supposed to be applied directly to the skin between the shoulder blades. When I had two cats, they used to groom each other....but my male wouldn't go near the spot on the female where I applied the topical, so that shouldn't be a concern. If the Advantage was applied in the right spot, it's doubtful your cat's licking it. If he is, just watch him closely for the next few days. Anything out-of-the-ordinary should be reported to a vet immediately.

Hi there...
I have used advantage on my cats for well over six months and I have never had any probs. I put it on the back of their neck and although it looks as if they could lick it, they never have. If they have, I've never known about it (ie. they haven't gotten sick). Just make sure that it was the correct dose for your cat:
you can get advantage for cats up to 4kg and for cats over 4kg.
I think your cat will be fine :)
By the way, I give Advantage 10/10 for EFFECTIVENESS

a cat should not be able to lick the area where its put, if you get the right area, he may try to lick it but shouldnt be able to reach it, its safe, thats why the vet sells it. you must reapply once a month. but it will kill all the fleas in the house.

You put the advantage at the base of the skull where the cat can't lick it. It won't hurt the cat, but put it at the base of the skull on the skin.

The pesticide is not to be ingested.....ask your vet if she is acting funny. Dog Advantix is not to be used on cats.....be care full and apply to neck area and not where your pet may lick/clean itself...
Read the pamphlet/box that comes with it....
otherwise call vets office.....

Your cat cannot reach the back of his neck between his shoulder blades. That is the correct place to put the medicine. Once it dries all is good :)
And yes, it is VERY effective.

If you put garlic and brewers yeast in your pet(s) food they will not have a flea problem. This will take about 6 weeks to work and as long as you do this you'll never see fleas again.
I don't believe any chemical can be good except for cleaning carpet.

Yeah, my cats managed to lick some of it too and they are fine.
Is it safe? My answer is yes. Is it effective? So far, no.
