The one I work at in Virginia doesn't. But like others have said, it's just to find out where they should open up new stores. They're not planning on stalking you or anything, I promise ;-)

There are no ZIP codes in Canada. We have postal codes. In rural areas there might be one postal code covering a large area. In a city, a large apartment building or a business might have its own postal code. Apart from these, a single postal code typically covers one side of a street for a city block. For example, on my block there are only two houses on each side of the street, so that means one postal code for my house and my next door neighbour, and another code for the people across the street. To look up postal codes, go to the Canada Post website.

A lot of stores do this. It's marketing research. If they know the zip codes of their customers then they know where their customers live, and therefor, they know where to build stores and send advertisements.
There's a lot of in store marketing research that goes on today. When the grocery store gives you a special card or number to punch in (so you can get the special member prices) It's their opportunity to know everything you buy and where you live and how often you shop and how much you spend and EXACTLY how and what they can sell to you.
Hope that answers your question.

Because they are trying to track you and your purchases and to do direct home marketing. You can refuse to give it there, or anywhere that asks for your code or phone number.

It's a type of marketing survey system. It is to find out from WHERE their times are being purchased.

i think that it's interested in the demographic of its shoppers so it knows who buys what where just in case they plan on opening up a new location, they know generally where it might be needed.
