I opened an account with chase bank because they were convenient and they failed to mail a payment to my credit card company and now my credit card payment is late, the interest has gone way up and I cannot prove to them it is their fault. They are telling me the the credit card company did not cash their check, then they said I had the wrong account number in on online banking, so I checked it over and the correct number is there. Then they mailed double payments out of an old account and my new chase account to my chase credit card. They are soooooo FIRED!
They are costing me a fortune and will not fess up and I am unable to sleep until all my checks come in and I have closed the account. Help

I would not waste anymore time dealing directly with the bank. Gather all of your documentation, actually always continue to document and keep, contact the Attorney General of your state. They will send you a complaint form. Mail back a.s.a.p.. Also, if you do have to have anymore contact with the bank, do it through the mail and send everything by certified mail. If you do as I suggest, I can almost guarantee results in your favor.

Take all of your supporting documents to the local main office and ask to speak to a manager.

Be forewarned- you'll probably lose this round. That's OK- document what happened, close your account with dignity, and start a new one somewhere that actually remembers what customer service is- I suggest a Credit Union.

If your credit card is paid OK now, don't sweat that part. If it is not, pay it current or it will really hurt soon!

Contact the major credit reporting agencies and get a report (there are ways to get this free- they will help with that.) If this shows up, request that they allow you to add a note about it.

If, in the future, you are denied any credit, ask for the reports again and attach another note if needed. Again- this is your right if you get turned down.

As to the higher interest- there is probably not much you can do but to watch for a 0% interest card offer and transfer the balance. Certainly call the credit card and explain your side, and mention that you'll have to close the account if the interest is not fixed.

First put in a complaint with the credit reporting agency that reported the "bad credit" to have your accounts having high interest rates - also on line go to FTC.gov and file a report - they may not handle, but you can print out a copy and show it to the offending company and let them know you mean business and then they will be contacted by the reporting agency and they may have a little give after all of that - I had Honda Finance screw me in almost the same way - in July and I'm still fighting, but I 'm actually winning now

Initially I would call the bank and ask for their billing department manager (don't talk with anyone of a lesser status or you will have to repeat yourself many times, plus the lower people always say something can't be done, and that's not a true statement). So you talk with the manager, get their name (usually they give out their full name, but if not then ask for their division manager)....you need a name. Call them by name (write it down) ask their direct phone number (write it down), and write down the date and time on a piece of paper. Now tell them what went wrong, and tell them you want it solved but prefer to put it in writing, so ask for the name and address of the person to write your letter to where you could get results. Normally you do this "before" you close your account so they can reverse the charges (if any) on your account.

when I have a problem like that I get all copies of everything (on or off line) and send copies to the bank, telling them what they were supposed to do, what I expected them to do, that they didn't do what they were told, and that I want it straightened out post haste and want a response letter from them.

If that response letter is satisfactory to you call your credit company and talk with the manager...get their name and direct phone number and location (write it down) ask them who is the person to write to with your complaint. Then send that person a letter and a copy of the letter you received from the bank. Ask that your account be corrected and your late fees eliminated.
Keep looking at your incoming statements and watch for the elimination of the late fees...if the next month it doesn't happen, call the person you wrote to. Eventually you will get a letter. The problem should be solved.

Computers do not make our lives easier. Don't depend on them. It's a hard lesson to learn, I know.

Write it off, and just accept the fact that you got screwed.
Consumer Reports just did a survey of 19 banks (this survey is from CR members (somewhere approaching 1,000,000) of the 19 chase came in 18 & 19 (chase and bank one-whichis owned by chase) the chances of your getting satisfaction are pretty slim. Wachovia came in second and we changed our personal acct to them from wells fargo (#17)

If you can not prove to them it was their fault, how could you prove this to anybody else? Don't you think it is just a waste of time?
I am not an American, so I don't know which government department you should go to. But, if I were you, I would write a formal complaint letter to their president or vice-president and see what response they could give me.
