So I got braces about one month ago. My teeth has a gap in the two front teeth, and my canine teeth are up there like fangs. My dentist says he wants to get the gap fixed, then take care of the other two teeth. I have not overbite, crossbite, etc. I've heard a lot of people say when you frist get braces they hurt like hell. But so far, I've felt NO PAIN. Is this normal? My gap isn't that big, maybe the width of a quarter or a lil bigger. So how long does it take to close the gap off? I dont ind wearing braces, I just wnat this stupid gap to fix. I heard some people say 6-8 months, and some say one month, and I'm really confused. Can someone please give me links to useful sites? or give me a good answer.

You usually start seeing a difference after the first month. As you move along, ur teeth will get better. It depends on what ur orthodontist does. Here's a couple of sites:

http://www.straighteeth-berkshire.com/braces/braces.html
http://www.kidshealth.org/kid/health_problems/teeth/braces.html

The 2nd website's kinda childish but it gives a lot of info.

i have braces and did have a big gap between my fornt teeth, the orthodontist pulled it togeter in like the second month i had braces but it didn't pull in even like symetrical so he pulled them apart again the next month and in again the month after that and then the gap was ok. there have been times when i have gone to the orthodontist and not had much pain after so i dont think you need to worry bout that mayb since u just got ur braces he didnt make the wire too tight or whatever so there is not much force

It depends on you. An experienced orthodontist might be able to tell you. I've worn braces for about a year. My father wore them for years when he was a child. As for pain, it depends what the procedure and how you usually eat. Closing gaps in the front were not as painful as the gaps on the sides.

i just got my braces yesturday and they didnt hurt at all. depending on how bad of a gap it is will probably depend on the time length for bringing the teeth together! i have a gap in my teeth too and the doctor told me and 3 weeks to a month. there is a website you can go to! www.simplestepsdental. hope it helps!

it will take a few months to close the gap, but the longer the braces are on the better. because the ligaments around the root of the tooth all stretch and take some time to get back to normal, so if you get them off early the teeth will move back to the original position....

It all depends on your age, rate of growth, size of the problem. There is no set "time limit" on braces. You need to talk to your Orthodontist...they can tell you the plan and schedule is for you. You also can't always see what is happening while the braces are on your teeth.
