I have a Green Card and I am a Permanent resident of The United States with a work permit.
I am married to an American since year 2000.

Is it true I can become an american citizen after 3 years just because I am married to an American?

Yes. Make sure you check out first the other requirements at www.uscis.gov.
Having filed taxes properly the past 3 years
Not spent more than 180 days outside the USA
Include all filing fees, and copies of supporting documents
Study the 100 sample history questions (they will pick 3 or 4 out of these)
Good luck!

Yes, I'm starting my citizenship process too, because I've been married to a citizen for the last 4 years, and I've been a permanent resident for the last 3 years.
