Thats easy.
Less than 8 hours.

Let me explain. The body and brain need to rest. Mainly your brain. And your brain and body is like a bank. The more you dont pay the more debt you get in. Your brain and body will begin to accumalate all the hours you havent slept and your brain wont function as well.
Your balance wont be very well and your reflexes wont react the same as if when you are well rested.

Take care and make the time to sleep! Sleepy head!

7-8 regularly according to many studies is what most people need. I just read about a study that concluded that people running a few days on 4-5 hours sleep were as functional as people who'd been up for 48 straight. Sleep is something that you can catch up on and it is not a 1 for 1 on how much skipped. That same study concluded that most in the US are trying to get by on 6 hrs or so and are chronically sleep deprived leading to higher stress and lower performance. Wish I could remember the study. After you catch enough zzzzzs, google. I think there's lots out there.

I usually get 5 hours sleep every night. 1-6am. That seems to keep me rolling. What might be good for me might not be good for you. You have to find the right balance for yourself. Sleep vs awake. Put yourself on a sleep/awake schedule. Document every night the "time you go to bed, fall asleep, and wake up in the morning" . Keep recording information for a month or so. I'm sure you have some insights.........

If you are having serious problems with your sleep, you might want to consider a sleep study at a sleep lab. They'll help you with measuring how much sleep your body really needs vs the daily daily demands.

Are you on medications that might be too sedating?

Good luck

I took a class once for Insomnia- It was reasearched by a Harvard professor. The class and book is called "Say Goodnight to Insomnia" . In the class they taught us that the body needs at least 5 1/2 hours to be able to operate and function properly. Anything less and you will be unable to think clearly.

Anything less than 6 hours and I am zombie city. 5 hours and just count me out. 4 hours and I am a grouch until I find my pillow . Too little sleep makes me feel ill. I get 6-7 hrs a night.

The amount of sleep I get each night.
Too little.
I get about five or six hours each night. I'm horrible.
Then I sit through long boring classes. Ugh.
