I have a tendency to think negatively and stay tensed by predicting problems that could occur in future in my life. I have always been like this since child-hood..i try to help myself by thinking about other things. But my mind always tends to go in the same direction and be worried all the times...which is why i dont sound cheerful to people..and i dont think i like that about myself. How do i start living a positive life ..happy..cheerful..and keep others around me happy ?

First of all just know that your intention to be happy and cheerful is half the battle. If you want it bad enough, with practice, you will absolutely succeed.

You say you've been this way since childhood and that your mind tends to go in the same direction all the time and right there is the key. After so many years of your mind running your life in a negative direction its now time for you to take over.

Your mind is replaying over and over what it has learnt and now its time for you to retrain it. It takes time and vigilance but with practive you can make it happen. As soon as negative thoughts come up exchange it for something positive. Remind yourself all the time that life is filled with great things going on all the time.

Stay away from negative situations and people. Cling to the positive with all your might. Your mind will fight you but after time will learn to let go. Lets say for instance tomorrow you awaken and it raining. Your mind will tell you what a horrible day its going to be. Stop and say out loud "No, its going to be a great day. I am grateful for the rain and all the wonderful things this day holds for me" Everytime you exchange a negative for a positive you will see the change and be encouraged to continue.

I was there, now I am here. Just keep looking forward. Forget about what you did in the past, its gone and can't be repeated. Today is all you have and you can make it a great Today, every single time.

you sound like you may suffer of anxiety. Since it sounds very constant. Its pretty common.

First of all, relax and take it slow. One day and minute at a time. Second of all, when you wake up in the morning look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself good things. Go one thing at a time.
Tomorrow you want to start with something and then add to it where you will put the goal to the medal. For example: " being a better friend" , today im going to be more understanding and tomorrow i will be understanding and offer help to those who need it and on the third day i want to be understanding and helpful and maybe a little bit more patient.
And ect. Im sure you understand the point.
BELIEVE IN what you are telling yourself.
Remember that noone can help you if you dont take the first step in helping yourself. When you want something, forget it you know that its yours it may take a while but your going to be okay.

If you really want to live a positive life then I dont see any obstacle regarding thinking process. Its upto you what you want to think. Sometimes in your life you must have had the experience that you are totally engrossed in something, that for a minute, you didn't even notice the change in your surrounding. At that time you were concentrating on something. So what I want to suggest to you is think positive and concentrate on doing it. Wake up ealry in the morning. Before you get out of bed, think what you had done yesterday and what you are supposed to do today. Also classify the good things that you did yesterday and planning to do today. Make it a point in your life to think something positive everyday that you want to do and do it without fail.

Every time you have a negative thought, throw a dollar (or whatever) in a coffee can. It's the honor systen but it will work if you let it. That's more like a "punishment " route

You could also toss a dollar in every time you had a positive thought. That of course is the "reward" route.

I hope someone can answer this because this has been making my life very difficult among other things... but it has made good times seem bad because when it seemed like everything was going perfect my mind starting thinking of worse-case scenios and only the bad that can come from things, never the good.

Future and past are the only realms of thought.
Your thinking is just worrying & fantasizing about future & past events.

In order to live your life here & now you must drop off your desires... desires are the origin of thought.

Otherwise you live a life not in reality, but in ideas about reality.

some times i too used to suffer with this problem.you should think that you can do any thing.start reading nice thoughts.read good books like 'you can win' by shiv kera etc. first you work up to your complete potential.you put your complete effort.
i believe in luck.but i feel i am more lucky only when i work hard.its my self experience.once you start working hard,then you too will feel the same.when you start feeling you are lucky,then your feeling will be removed.
i dont know what you do.if you are a student,then its a good solution to you.

It's a tough thing to break. I don't worry all the time but I am pretty negative too. No advice here. Sorry. ^_^
