i don't think he knew him that well, but i don't know what to say to him?

Tell him: "I am really sorry four your loss (insert name here). Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you or your family in your time of need, or if you just need a friend right now." This is kind, and formal, yet personal, and shows you truly care for your friend, and feel for his loss.

Let him know you are there whenever he needs someone to talk to or just to be there for him. Sometime a person doesn't need you to say a lot, they just want someone ther to listen. Even though he didn't know his uncle well, it is still a loss to grieve. He will still feel it because a part of his family is gone.

Certainly don't treat him like a leper, be the friend you usually are, go out for a drink or to a club. Be sincere and simply say you're sorry his uncle has passed away. ask him what he was like, maybe he wants to talk about it, if not let it go and let things be what they are normally. Be a friend.

Just tell him you're sorry for his loss, don't say I feel sorry for you, that will make him feel worse, I think!
Try to show support, not just act as if you are concerned

Don't go into the religious sh!t unless you really know he is into that stuff.. saying sorry is enough without the prayer thing

Damn, dude. That f-n sucks! If you need to talk, just let me know. I'll be there for you if you need me.

I really hate it when people tell me they're sorry. I understand the sentiment behind it, but it just really pisses me off. And besides, what the hell are you supposed to say back? Thanks? Me too? I'd rather a person understand the shittiness that I feel and say 'dude, that sucks.' It just makes me feel better personally. Just to let you know....

Just say that you are sorry for his loss and that you will say a prayer for his patience and acceptance of the Lords decision.

its always hard 4 someone to lose family or friends, so just comfort him and say ur there (not cheesy like). try not to say "thats so sad" cause obviously he knows that! its his uncle!
