Like practically all of the stories in the Old Testament I have studied so far, yes, I do believe it really happened, but I believe if the story is in the Bible it is there to illustrate something to us. Some deeper meaning, that applies in a unique way to each of us.

Christ died on the cross for mankind not for Adam and Eve, it was from the new testament not the old, no where dose Christ even mention Adam and Eve because it is just a story that holds no water what so ever, those that believe in them are nothing more than misguided souls in my opinion.

Aren't you all about overgeneralizations. No I don't believe in total scriptural inerrancy. YES I am a Christian and the world's not black and white. While we're discussing Adam and Eve I'd like to point out to you that in Genesis 1:27 God creates man and woman and then in 2;21 HE creates Eve AGAIN. Also, how many animals of each species were on the ark. A pair of each or 7 pairs each of clean and 1 pair each of unclean. (Re-read the flood story) These inconsistencies exist because we have an original copy of the Biblical Text. I for one believe it was inerrant in its original form after thousands of years in the hands of men various editions have been combined and rather than chancing leaving out the correct story editors have sometimes included more that one telling of the same story. I accept this based on the belief that God is in control and if it he didn't want us to ask questions of the text he would have kept it perfect.

I believe that it was inspired by God and related to human language by Moses or whomever wrote it down. Also while the story might be an exact literal accounting, it never said that they were the only humans created only that they were the ones who disobeyed God in the Garden.

I know what you are saying and completely agree. Alot of catholics are taught that that story is just made up but if you are a christian you should believe the story and everything in the bible.

If you are a Bible believing Christian, which I am,
then you definitely believe the beginnings, of which
Adam and Eve were formed by God.

Literally it is senseless.
Literarily (as literature) it makes sense.

I believe every word, sentence, paragraph, verse, chapter and book of the Bible to be the truth and inspired word of God. End of subject.
