I have 2 teenage daughters, 2 toddler daughters, seven katz and a husband in med school. I smoke because it's the only thing that Mommy does just for Mommy... I like to smoke. Mommy is on the back porch smoking... leemee alone for 5 minutes. I do have that moment of panic when I have my last one and aren't sure that I have another pack in my car.
I think it's a little of both.

Hello,
To answer your question. Smoking contains nigotine. Which is an additive drug. Your brain becomes dependent on it. That is why you smoke. Even if you go without smoking for months. Smoking can be controlled, but its dangerous. Because it contains a drug, and it will have the same affect as other drugs. Mood swings when you dont smoke, sweating, nervousness or anxiety, and ect. Also, its very unhealthy for your lungs. Cigarettes are one of the top killers in the US.
Most people smoke due to stress. so do things to avoid your stress, and you will be avoiding the wanting to smoke.
PS: Try cutting down, or find something else to do instead of smoking.

Sounds like to me that you smoke mostly when you get stressed out. If you have less stress you smoke less. I know I have gone two years without smoking but that was because I had very little stress.

My grandma had one lung and smoked like a engine. I kept asking her to stop but she kept saying she couldn't - for 15 years she said she couldn't quit. Then she had to move into a nursing home and HAD to quit. She quit smoking just like that. I was both happy and sad. Happy she finally quit. Sad that she SEEMED to lie to me in that she couldn't quit. :((
Of course I wasn't with her in the nursing home to see what trouble she had going without.
So, it seems it is possible to quit if you are willing to put up with the withdrawl symptoms. Remember, no matter how bad they are, it is worth it, as your health is more important.

This is something that is different for different people. Smoking controls me personally. But I know people who control it just as you have said that you control it.
