Your doubts are natural. I imagine many people consider this question at some point in their lives. There's an element of every belief that requires faith.
I had a hard time letting go of my doubt (it took me about 12 years). For me, I started to change by reading the bible at Matthew - by the time I got to about Romans or Acts I was impressed with the fact that the bible is written by several authors, yet the content is related forward and backward and is consistent across time and author. Sure, there were some peculiarities that make interesting discussion, but actually reading the bible helped me to overcome what I thought I knew about the bible.
Doubt can be very destructive - if you only believe the 99% of the bible, how do you decide which 1% to not believe?
I suggest visiting a church for help. Yahoo Answers is fun, but it'd be better to have personal support with your questions.

Well concider the fact the Lord has given us more imformation & ways to discover the truth, than JUST the Bible. However..the Bible IS a compliation of 66 books, written over a 1500 year period by several people from different walks of life..all the scriptures confirm one another. Even though the authors may have been centuries apart...or miles & miles apart. Not to mention all the prophesies that have come to pass. (and have yet to come to pass) As well as the fact that the Bible is the only book that has remained almost virtually unchanged all this time. Why is it that no other name is used as often as the name of Jesus Christ in a "blasphemous" way?...why is Israel (such a small portion of the world, with little of what humanity calls riches..yet is the center of controversy & war? ) There are plenty of ways to discover the truth about the Bible....but the best way is to READ it yourself & ask God to show you! (believing He will if your seeking with all your heart!) Even Albert Einstein who began as an athesist..left this life as a deist! (someone that found through seeking knowledge, that God really does exist!)
Keep seeking..it is worth the journey!!

You just need to read the Bible some more. As you read, you will discover how silly it is to think that this is man made. Keep in mind that there hundreds of prophycies about Jesus Christ, the odds of some guy just popping into the world and saying, gee, I think I will fulfill those old prophycies to prove I am he. No way, just think for a moment, did you predict your own birth, birth place or family geneolgy?
The Bible is an amazing book that many have given their lives to study it and those are the people that after 40 or 50 years of study realize that their lives are too short to even come close to finishing the study.
The Bible has directions for good living. I have heard non Christians say that the Bible is packed with good morals and values that will lead to peaceful successful living.
Just think about it, how else would God communicate with you. He used prophets over a long periods of time and as you read it you will be amazed at how it all fits together.
Want the key for success, its in the Bible, I'll make it easy for you, just read one verse and see what it says, read JOSHUA 1:8 it will be the best 30 seconds of your life. It changed my life 17 years ago and I have never been the same.
Its up to you! We get to make choices but I suggest you taste and see that God is good.

Let's look at it this way for a second. If it's not true you just die and stay dead in the ground. If it is true then you spent eternity in Heaven with God. Where's the down side. God doesn't ask for much. The only thing He asks of us is to believe that Jesus was sent to us to be sacrificed for our sins, and that He rose from the dead and is in Heaven waiting too return. That is not a lot to ask of us. We should follow God's laws as best as we can and repent of our sins, but once you really believe and have faith, then it's pretty easy to follow God. We follow Him because we want to. We want to please Him. Think of all the religions that have come and gone. Christianity has always been around. Whatever questions you have, I urge you to call 888-ask-hank. He is a radio host that is on all sorts of stations and he is very well versed in the Bible and can answer any question. I guarantee he can give you the answers you seek to any questions. Good luck. I will be praying for you. It's a great feeling to know that even when you die, you will still live forever. God bless you.

You are an epistle, meaning you ARE a living testimony (like the Bible guys only you are walking the earth). You know the truth; you can FEEL it. Don't just jump into the Bible. With your tongue, ask the Lord to come into your heart, say that you believe that He is your Savior, then ask for the Holy Spirit to show you the way. After you do that with all sincerity (maybe a bit of meditation 'seeking' God), return to the scriptures. The enlightenment will come to you just as it did the Buddha.

Yes much of the Bible has been tampered with. King Constantine has stricken many important thing out of the Bible. There are many mistranslations. And The so called apostle Paul Never even met Christ yet his words are 70% of the Bible. If you want the real Christianity go to www.essene.org. They where the original Christians and have the lost teachings of Christ. There is also a book called You Mean That's in the Bible and it shows all the mistranslations and things taken out of the Bible you can get at www.krishnaculture.com Pray for the truth to be revealed and it shall. Just be prepared it may not be the main stream Christianity we all know

Thank you for your honesty first of all!
The bible was written over a period of 1500 years, by people of all different walks of life. From fisherman, to kings, doctors...ordinary people. And all of the books unite together in an amazing way. That can only be from God.
The Old Testament was specially guarded by the Jews and they would painstakingly go over every single letter in it. And if a manuscript was found to be incorrect, just by one letter, they would scrap the whole thing, and start again. And it's by these scriptures, of the Old Testament, that God spoke to the prophets over the years, of the Messiah that was to come. Hundreds of prophecies were revealed about this special "person". And for just one of these prophecies to come true, the odds would be millions to 1. When Jesus Christ came, he fulfilled every single prophecy, that was in the Old Testament. For example, in Isaiah, which is in the OT, written about 600 years before Jesus was even born, the prophet spoke of a man who would come and suffer for mankind and be killed on a cross. You might not find this amazing, until you realize that the act of crucifiction was not set up until the time of the Romans, which was 600 years later. So how did Isaiah, the prophet know?!
It's by looking at the life of Jesus, and seeing how he lived, that I hope you will find that he is who he says he was/is. For him to say the things he said, for example, "I am the resurrection, and the life. I am the living water. I am the bread of life." And for him to claim that he was the "Son of God", you can come to one of three conclusions....either he was a liar......a lunatic.....or he was really who he claimed to be. If you read about him in the bible, you'll find that it's impossible for him to be a lunatic because of the way that he talked, and the way that he lived his life. He was the most stable and intelligent person. He wasn't evil, because everything he stood for was against it. It becomes obvious that he is who he claims he is.
I could go on forever! I hope that I have helped you in some way...please feel free to email me anytime and I will help you as much as I possibly can! Again, thank you so much for having an open heart.
God bless you,
Angelia

i am native american indian and in our church we dont have a written bible or bring the bible in as a guide. but our beliefs are in line with the bible. now how can you say that there isnt a God when many tribes from many countries have similar beliefs and have never read the bible or some dont know about it. and the ways are so close. most people have to have tangible evidence if they can see it, touch it, or read it. you have to study and pray. dont trust man he will fail you every time. it will cause you no harm to read the bible. or parts of the bible. ask God to send his people to you for reasurance and to lift you up. it will happen and when it does understand you will then be building up your faith. i believe you will find Jesus he is already there cause you belong to him.

You probably heard this before, but what did the apostles have to gain from lying? As far as we can tell, all but one of the apostles, John, did not die a natural death. They were willing to be tortured to death rather than recant their story that they saw Jesus return from the dead. Fame does no good for a dead man.
[BTW, stay away from the Watchtower website. They are Jehovah's Witnesses, and they are not Christian]
------------------------------------
...Frank Morrison, a British lawyer of the 1930s, undertook an expedition to collect circumstantial evidence to disprove the resurrection. Such evidence, of course, is admissible in all courts of law in civilized countries to prove or disprove events of which there are no living eyewitnesses. When he analyzed the evidence, he reached a stunning conclusion: The resurrection had actually taken place! Morrison presented his case in his book, "Who Moved the Stone?"
Another factor worth considering is the character of the disciples. They were eleven cowardly men who shut themselves in a room after the crucifixion because they were afraid. Yet what galvanized them into action so that within their own lifetime, much of the then known world could hear the message of Christ? Some of them paid for this message with their lives. Would they have done so if the resurrection were a hoax? ...

That's a wonderful question xAviator.....One that has been put in you by the Holy Spirit...His job is to lead you and all mankind to Christ...The Bible states quite clearly, that " God has put into every man, a measure of "faith" to believe"...Your desire for truth was put into your spirit, ever since you drew your first breath ... So it's natural to feel this way...
First of all..don't be concerned whether you believe the writers are correct or not...The Holy Spirit will take care of that in due time...... Just know that Jesus said.." I am the way, the truth and the light, no man comes to my father, but by me".... and.." For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, whoever believes in him, shall not perish, but, have everlasting life". That is the most important message and the essance of Gods' love for you..
He really does and is drawing you now...
To find Jesus and get your answer...Get off the internet and get alone for one minute ...Close your eyes and with all the faith and sincerety you can muster up...Pray this little prayer...
Dear Lord, I am in confusion..I want to find you Jesus...Please have your Holy Spirit guide me and show me that this is the way to you and our Heavenly Father...I pray this in Jesus' name...Amen..
When he comes to you and you feel his presence, and you will...Accept Jesus as your personal Savior and Friend....Jesus and his Spirit will take it from there....ok?
I am saying a prayer for you now...God richly bless and keep you...
What a privilage to have the opportunity to answer this question for you....Yukoneze
