Some people do keep cockatiels in outdoor aviaries. However, they have to have adequate shelter including a heated shelter in the winter. Near freezing, 32 degrees F or below the birds are in danger of getting their feet frostbitten.

I think it is better to keep birds indoors - indoor birds have much less chance of catching diseases or parasites from wild birds or rodents, getting frostbitten, etc.

45 degrees is definately too low for your cockatiel to survive. Cockateils have a body tempature of about 102 degrees, so they need to be in warmer temperatures. The lowest temperature taht a cockatiel should be in is 70 degrees. Any lower than that will surely kill your friends.

A temperature of 45 degrees is too cold for your cockatiel! Get him a cage that will fit into your space and let him stay inside. Think about what will happen if it gets damp and windy too? Please google for a good cockatiel site. They'll give you all the information you need on minimum/maximum temperatures. Good luck!

If the birds are acting happy as usual I wouldnt worry too much but anything below that is way too cold. I suggest getting a heating lamp you can hang inside or outside his cage and cover or close in the cage with plexiglass to hold the warmth. Cockatiels are known to live in snowy conditions in some states so anything you do to keep them warm will help them thrive even more!

They come from Australia!! So that means they are NOT cold climate birds. They should stay in a heated house of atleast 72 if not more degrees. Many health problems can occur with too cold of weather and exotic birds.
Is 45 degrees too cold for you in the morning? If it's not good for you without a coat it's not good for them.

i live in massachussets and temperatures are droping as the days go on...i have 3 cockatiels, and i've tried putting them inside, but they freaked out and wanted out....so what i did was put them in the garage, and provided a heater (to be on at night when it gets cold) so far so good..im thinking on buying a couple more heaters so that when it gets real cold, they could be warm....it also helps to close all openings like broken windows or holes....
