do a websearch for your local area and usually there are rescue org that will allow you to post for free, also most papers will post lost/found pets for free too. another group is www.freecycle.org and craigslist.org follow the links to your state and city and look for the 'free' section.

In addition to things like www.petfinder.com, you should always post signs and put an ad in the classifieds. Do NOT put a picture of the cat on there, though--ask the "owner" to describe the cat to be sure that it is the real owner.

Along with Craigslist as suggested, e-mail your local Humane Society, and -- do a Google search for "lost found cat (your area)." Try by city, province, even country.

try 1) craigslist, if you're in or near a major city, ( http://www.craigslist.org/about/cities.html ) or 2) your local newspaper may have a classified section on the web that woulc include a place for general notices

Try petfinder.com

Also, take a photo of the pet and post flyers in your neighborhood and at the supermarkets.

You can, but it most likely won't reach it's owner. Call your local ASPCA or the Humane Society and they will take all the info and care for them till their owner comes.

there is a site where I registered my dog just in case she went missing. I can't remember the site now, which doesn't do me any good. But maybe this site can point you in the right direction.
www.petfinder.com not for sure though

Call your local animal shelters to find out. They can give you specifics about your particular area that we can't.
