I met this guy on an online dating site last June - we talk nightly on the phone or IM. I sent him an e-card for Halloween yesterday and he responded with an e-mail immediately. He signed it

Much Love,
Steve

He's never written that before on IM or any e-mails - or said it on the phone. What do you think it means?

He is cautiously moving your relationship to a deeper level, and finds it easier to write than to say. This is a positive step and it's your move now. You can send an email to him and sign "much love." You can im or send an e card and sign " love " or "ly" or whatever you think appropriate. You can just im him and say something like "backatya" .

Much Love Meaning

If I may, what I picking up by your question is that your excitment and hope have escalated simply because the person used the word love. It can't be because they used the word much. If there has been contact since June and you don't feel safe enough to ask the person straight up "What does "Much Love" mean to you, 'cause I don't want to put any meaning on it that is not there". then what good would love be without feeling safe enough to ask. To me it is just a hip hop kind of phrase. People say it all the time. Kind of like a K-Fed thing. Just a phrase unless the person steps up to the plate and engages in a real conversation with you about your feelings. Good thing to ask here first. You are interpreting things so it looks like he cares. "immeadiately", "we talk nightly", "You are creating a version of truth based on what you want. the way to check out to see if something is really there is to ask. The only reason it would be scary is if you really feel that his version of truth is different than your version. You are only remembering things that support your case for "he cares". Ask and really find out if he cares. If he does, he wants your questions. If not, He will want to talk about something else or not talk. get real, be real, stay real. You talk nightly on the phone but do you see him or is this a non everyday life somethin' somethin'? Are you afraid to have a real relationship where you can get mad, ask questions, have questions etc. Don't sell out for a phrase. read: " He's just not that into you" a book. good luck.

Nothing, I sign all of my much love and peace. So what, if he was in love with you and never spent anytime but on the phone and email, i would find this a bit strange. As a matter of fact i would run as fast as i could away from him God bless

Just another step up in your friendship. Maybe he now feels comfortable with you and feels that he can express himself a little more. Don't take it too literally, just try and think of it as how you love your friends. I'm always saying 'love ya babe' to my friends, and it's true, i do love them, but in the same way I love chocolate, or my dog.

If you've never met face to face, I wouldn't take it seriously...there's no way anyone can truly feel heartfelt love for someone they don't know (and ya can't know someone w/o spending time with them)...

Also consider, "love" is one of the most overused, and abused words in our language...

Think of it as an affectionate closing, and nothing more...

He likes you, but it does not mean that he is love with you. I sign with "Your friend Keith", but that does not mean that I would drop everything and run to the side of someone that I am not close to. It just means that I have friendly feelings toward that person. More that just an acquaintance.

It is a friendly placating answer. One he is likely to have given out in a standard form of reply. Much Love sounds like he gave it to his sister, mom, aunt, grandma, friends. I would not read anything into it. It is a friendly closing.
