I would go for a rescue or shelter dog too. Mutts are good dogs and there are so many of them that need good homes. I really recommend checking out whatever dog you end up getting to make sure it has a good temperament. There is a great site that gives a great temperament test.

Working as a dog training instructor, I have found out first hand that it's best to go by the dog's own personality, not always by a breed. You can have a good or bad dog of any breed. Also, I think you can have a good dog of any age too. You should think about it though. If you get a puppy, you will be having to go through training and potty training it. If you get an older dog, you might only have to train it, it will be potty trained, and won't have all the puppy issues that some people have a hard time having the patience for. There are a ton of older dogs that generally get looked over because of the puppies. It's up to you on what you think you can handle. Good luck. : )

Well I went to the local animal shelter and adopted a 5 year old female Rottie, I haven't pick her up yet will do that on Friday. I went looking for a puppy and let me tell you they had plenty of animal that needed adopted, if I could afford it I would have adopted a couple more ( I already have 3)one will be sent to doggie heaven friday morning sick and dying of cancer) Our shelter had a room I was able to take the dog into and sit and talk with her for awhile (did this with a couple of pups) after about 1 hour at the shelter and really watching I decided the Rottie one the one for us. She is older and more settle then a puppy.. I just went through the puppy stage (my youngest is only 2) so I decided not to do that just yet. My suggestion is just go to the shelter and look for what you think you might want then see if your shelter has a room you are able to spend some time with the dog. You will know if it is right for you.

Please visit the shelters & rescues. You will find the perfect comforting friend the minute you see him/her. Smallish is the best idea because he/she can stay very close to you physically & will be easy to take with you. You can even get your dog certified as a service dog by going to your local city shelter or visiting a website with the name "Delta" something (sorry!). I'm sure that following answers will tell you the correct website address!

Go to the shelter and look over the dogs there. Check out their personalities. They will let you take out different dogs to spend time with them in another area. Good luck finding a new friend.

You have to watch when getting a mixed breed or any dog for that matter from the pound. You don't know if they are trained or how they act around other people, or how old they really are. If you do get a dog, get a pup. That way it is young enough so you won't have any problems training it. Also get the pup used to being around other people. If not, your going to have a problem.

Mutts usually have the best tempermant. Sheep dogs & shepherds are very intelligent. By age 3 they have matured fully. But it all really depends on the training of the dog.

Puppies and dogs are like people in some ways, there isn't a certain breed that is best. Check out your local shelter, and ask them what each breed is like, and spend a little time with the puppy to see if it's right for you, and if you're right for him/her.

i think you should get a cocapoo because they are so well temperd and fun to be around.you should proububly get a puppy because then you have a lot of time to build a stong bond with it,but if you dont want to deal with that you should probubly get a dog around 5 because thats not to old and not to young.

:hope my edvice is of use to you.
