He who closes his eyes when he prays tries to focus his thoughts upon the prayer and shut out the interference of the outside world.
He who keeps his eyes open as he prays looks for the fruits of his prayer.
I do not pray because I do not have the need to.
For I know the Lord, our God is our Keeper and He shall Provide.
Peace.

Sometimes one sometimes the other! I am likely to keep them open when alone or driving, and closed when others are also praying (less distraction). Sometimes I am praying while talking to someone so eyes are open.

As a Muslim, I believe we are supposed to have our eyes open during Salah. There are places on the prayer mat that Allah has ordered us to look during prayer. For example, while standing and in Ruku' we are supposed to look at the place where our head makes Sijda. When you pray "attayyat" and come to "Ashado-allailaha illallah", you are supposed to look at the right index finger that you rise while saying it. When you say your salaams at the end, you look down at your shoulders right then left. In general, your gaze is to be lowered (not wandering) and stay in one spot on the mat. It is even recommended not to pray on a mat that has too much design as it can be distracting.
However, during Dua, you can close them as some pray with more sincerity and devotion while their eyes are closed.
Hope that answers your question...

Open. It's part of the Sunnah for Muslims. Lots of little details are important such as not to look up, not to look around, not to yawn etc... but if it is distracting then keeping the eyes closed is permitted.

Usually open. Especially when I am standing in church, I wouldn't want to fall down. It seems more informal to keep my eyes open and I like to be informal and feel like I am having a conversation with God.

I close them...i guess it gets rid of distractions, but you can leave your eyes open too, as long as you're focusing on God. I also usually curl up on the floor or in the corner of my room...It just humbles me so much more that way.

I keep them open and, at church, I stare at the cross.
Why should I close them, but keep them open in adoration. The Lord is not to be feared. Respected, yes; feared, no

Eyes open or closed? I don't think My God really cares! Only that we talk with Him.
