my mum says that no more than 2 cups a day and if you are having trouble staying awake maybe try fruit in the morning and a low gi breakfast as your energy will stay sustained that way i also had a problem staying awake during the day and found that getting to bed b4 midnight helps as the hours you get b4 12 are the hours that help to "open your sleep gates" that is i mean there are supposedly 3 stages that our bodies sleep in the first is "active" sleep and that is sleep where we are asleep but are aware of noises around us and react with small jerky movements babies and toddlers are in this state of sleep alot, the second stage is inactive sleep and this is where we are pretty much unaware of things around us and have nearly entered into our "R.E.M."(rapid eye movement) sleep now inactive sleep is where sometimes you will wake up and think that you have been asleep for about a minute and it feels like that too but in fact you have been asleep often for hours and the last stage is our rapid eye movement sleep where we dream and without this our bodies cant function as well as they should I know for fact that by setting our bodies clock as such is nearly impossible as different factors affect our timing everyday but i also know that going to bed before midnight if u can helps even if you do not sleep. I know also that when you don't get enough sleep your body has "micro sleeps" where you are actually asleep with your eyes open and for about 5 to 15 seconds and these are experienced by people who are fatigued and scientists have proved that these micro sleeps are worse than being drunk if driving and can be fatal and not just when we are driving so know that sleep is very important and a part of life we need to be healthy. I also think that you should try to keep a sleep diary if you can for a week or so along with a record of coffee and stimulants you have had and maybe try to find a level that allows you get enough sleep at night. I found also that a iron supplement or vitamin b helps as well. Try to remember to that caffeine is in a lot of everyday foods but this might not be the underlying problem it could also be sugar processed as sugar gives you a energy burst that is very short and doesn't last where as natural sugars in fruit give you a sustained release of energy as your body breaks it down I hope this helps mate because being tired all the time and needing coffee is not fun

I agree with everyone else when they say to try to cut it down to 2 cups a day. I enjoy my caffeine too, try drinking iced tea and soda too, but make sure you get enough water too because caffeine can be dehydrating. And no, coffee has NOT been proven to stunt your growth. You're only 16, you could still grow for another 4 years or so! I didn't start growing/filling out until I was 17 and started college!

Are you drinking coffee because you really like the taste or to stay awake? How about getting more sleep? Caffeine addiction is like anything else, hard to quit! So stop drinking coffee so much, get more sleep and most certainly don't switch to Red Bull.

It is in fact, addictive. Try one cup in the morning, but two is not bad really. You shold drink no more than that, though. Try a cup of tea in the middle of the day.

2 or 3 cups is okay I think. But if you are relying on it to keep you awake then I'd seriously check your diet. Also, exercising would be a good thing.

It can stunt your growth at that rate! Try only drinking one cup a day and then try to take it down to once a week or something.

Drink only room temp coffee, cooled by ice cubes.
Good, but not demanding that you have more.
One in morning, one in late afternoon.
Then take nap before doing homework or watching TV.
Early to bed, early to rise.
